Popular Post Garden Girl 5,621
Good Thanksgiving Morning... I tried to find a thread already opened but didn't see one so will wish everyone to have a wonderful holiday... This is always a difficult day for me because it was our day to gather with family at my girlhood home in So Calif all through the years. The house was warm, filled with love and the most delicious aromas of mom's dinner, pies, and all the trimmings... I would lie in bed in my old room listening to her bustling in the kitchen, pull myself up and sleepily stumble out to the kitchen to see how I could help. As I got older, left home and married, my husband would still have to drive me "home" from wherever we were (mostly San Francisco and then Oregon). Now here I am 80 years old, living on the beautiful central Oregon coast, but surprisingly spry with a positive outlook on life in general... I'm alone, widowed for 22 years, except for Susie-Cat (so I'm the proverbial old woman living with my cat in a cottage by the sea)... and this morning my heart sings as I prepare to start fixing a real Thanksgiving dinner... I bought a small turkey and will begin making the dressing... last night as I watched BYU basketball I made a pumpkin pie (a no sugar added version so I can enjoy a piece). The Cougs play again today, and again Saturday. I can't tell you how blessed I am... I told my bishop when he called to check on me, that I don't need one single thing... Every month I have my pensions (Univ of Calif and Cal State Univ) and Soc Sec. so I'm able to be self-sufficient with no debt. I have a fantastic ward (Lincoln City), my home is 1/2 block to the beach (down to the end of my street and out onto the sand)... My van that I bought new in 2008 for cash has only 80,000 miles on it so I shouldn't have to worry about a car (I'll be adding minimal miles per year now since I'm no longer driving into Portland every week to be an ordinance worker in the temple). I've got great neighbors who look every morning to see that my blinds are open (which indicates I'm not lying on the floor)... I have good friends at Church if I ever need to reach out, and enjoy good talks often... so here I am, looking out through the pines... Rain is forecast but that's alright... I'm cozy and dry... and saying my morning prayers with a grateful heart... from the beach... GG 5 1 Link to post
