Unfortunately, there is a very vocal minority (I hope it is a minority) holding on to the “glorious” Southern past. 
 

Besides that, we have people who think their rights are being taken away because they are asked to wear masks to retail establishments, and we have bar owners opening up in spite of shutdowns because they feel they are being treated unfairly.

Everyone is fighting for and against school opening, or not.

We’ve had over 14000 new cases in one day. That is down to 6000 or 7000 since the mask mandate but deaths are now spiking.

Apparently, there is a hurricane in the gulf and to top it off it has been hot as Hades.

We’re good, lol.

Businesses that managed to hang in there during the Covid shutdown are now closed due to the riots. With no end in sight.

Those of us who have employers still functioning, continue to work from home as downtown is not safe. We’re repairing damage on at least a weekly basis. 

I’ve spent a fair amount of time in several of those hospitals. I’m currently enrolled in an MS treatment study at the VA, but in-person appointments are still banned due to Covid. 

I have a black thumb but I would love to give gardening a shot somewhere in small-town Midwest. I am more than ready to give up riots, quarantine, and loneliness for something else. 

On the bright side every night has a free course in counter-counterinsurgency training.

The cartel is still killing people at my old marina . In Ensenada there are no protests or riots. We have 141 active cases of covid-19, not bad for a city of 500k. Pretty much everyone wears a mask. They take your temperature to enter the grocery store. To enter our marina there is a health stop, a decontamination booth and floor mats that wipe the virus off of your shoes. We are 2 blocks from the marines so we feel safe. They cruise the marina once a day in a boat.

About 40 miles south of Seattle, but it can take up to three hours to make the drive during AM and PM traffic hours. Seattle continues to be violent for no explicable reason. It’s a socialist’s utopia for crying out loud! Prosperous and beautiful city but now full of homeless encampments, druggies, Antifas, and wacky politicos, totally lost it’s way. The ChopChopChaz Free zone Summer of Love community turned murderous as predicted.  Seattle’s handling of the homeless crisis has been a catastrophe.

I still haven’t figured out why they destroy Starbucks cafes. Another one got busted up last night. The I5 freeway is shut down many nights to accommodate “protests.” That’s the only way to go north/south through the city. There are even warning signs on the surrounding highways to avoid that area for your own safety. I don’t know why anyone would want to live there under current conditions. We will probably not go there again for a long time.

We have family in Issaquah and Federal Way, both near Seattle. Pretty quiet there. Our sons work from home, so they don’t have to go into the city. They used to work downtown...Amazon and Floplay....so that is a blessing. No violence down here in our area of Pierce County, but Tacoma is having a little unrest because of a police shooting there. Seattle thugs keep making threats to take the violence to the suburbs. I don’t think they would be treated like they are in Seattle. We have a large number of Joint Base Lewis/McChord service people living in our neighborhoods. There were about five “protesters” on the main street about 3 blocks from our home one afternoon last week.

A lot of people want to move.

we just had a retired Air Force couple from Arizona move here, we haven't met them yet because they are in quarantine. We welcome everyone!!!!! We think they came here for the healthcare for their two sick daughters but yeah send anyone up here!

no current protest for BLM for about 2 weeks i want to say. Most protests period are in salt lake area so that’s not very surprising. In my specific town there were non period....just a few messages on the side walk or on homes in support.  I think there’s been a couple tiny protests surrounding mask wearing.

covid numbers here started to spike like much of the state. It’s early but they seem to be plateauing recently. Each week that i’ve gone grocery shopping mask wearing has gone up as have mask mandates in individual stores. The last major store that sinply requested masks made it reuired and had two workers passing out masks to those entering. Which i was extemely pleased with. 2weeks prior i could see a few people gripe about it to the people handing masks and a couple people pssive aggressively wore it as a chin strap or below their nose. But at this point i think most people have come to accept it To some degree. 
i’m more worried for my family down in Texas where people are still taking it lightly inspite of the surge. I think from some of my brother’s reports they think it’s basically hopeless based on how many won’t wear a mask and aren’t following social distancing guidelines. They struggle to really do so themselves at times. Which worries me since they fit the demographics you don’t want to see together: younger college aged with older not super healthy parents

The protests have led to renaming some high schools in Northern Virginia.  Stonewall Jackson High school (not far from you in Manassas) will be renamed Unity Reed High School.  I've heard there is a rush to print t-shirts and bumper stickers with "U R High" on them.  Not sure they thought through the new name before they rushed to rename the school.

In the DC area we are accustomed to protests so as long as they don't block traffic and cause delays, they are tolerated.  They usually slow down or stop after presidential elections if their candidate wins.

Nearly got tboned in a four-way stop by an Oregonian in a Ford who blew through a stop sign at 35-40 mph. Took some fancy avoidance driving to keep from being rolled.

Otherwise, just the usual officiousness and low-key defiance.

In DFW I have seen that most people are wearing masks. People who thought they were unnecessary are mostly wearing them due to social pressure. Occasional stories about someone petulantly refusing due to "MAH RIGHTZ!" but I have not seen it. Cases are still on the rise in many counties.

In my neck of the woods in the UK (southern England) it is extremely quiet. Covid-19 isn't particularly prevalent, either.  My wife works at a local hospital and at the moment there's no-one in their ICU with the virus.

That’s funny. My son Nomadissimo tried to go into Quebec with his pregnant girlfriend to set up a home with her mother and grandmother. They let her come in, but he was turned away. Looks like Canadians don’t mind splitting up families at their border.

Few even think of violence where I live, most rioting occurs in locations where guns laws make it difficult to own weapons. So here in the sunny South, when people are easily able to be armed, not much violence at all. Also, as a retired Police Officer, I am always armed, unless I am in Church.

I hope the states come to their senses and repeal the Second Amendment so that gun manufacturers are on the same footing as the makers of knives, autos and chainsaws.

But he wasn't put in a cage was he? and he wasn't a child? Keep in mind though that Quebec has different laws than the rest of Canada in regards to immigration, not totally. One is the French language requirement.

Apparently it is a failed congressional candidate who started the misinformation tweet.  Iirc, this isn’t the first time she has done such. (Her website claims she lost to a radical Socialist when she didn’t even make it passed the other Democrat and placing third out of four Republicans, the top vote came in 74% and she got 1.8...)

Southern NM here. No violence at all. We had some initial BLM protests that blocked some intersections, but they were handled well by the police. The police had anticipated it, so they allowed the streets to be blocked and rerouted traffic prior to reaching the intersections.

There are continuing protests at a park near the library. Just sign holding and chanting. At the beginning, a few ridiculous Boogaloo boys showed up in their Hawaiian shirts and tactical gear.

I get the feeling that most of the country is quiet and peaceful, except for the media amplified loud actions in some of the larger cities.

Maybe I am misunderstanding your post, “repeal the Second Amendment”, would outlaw gun ownership, would it not? Is this what you are hoping for?

I’ve got my chainsaw locked in a safe out in the shed. I was worried it might get out some night and create mayhem. The car, well, that’s a different story. Since it can drive itself now, I’ve lost complete control over where it goes and what it does. I am not responsible for any harm it may cause. 😉

The media is not amplifying what is happening in Portland and Seattle, if by amplify you mean make it seem bigger than it is. On the contrary, the media is underplaying the reality. I will not go into Seattle for any reason. Lots of folks around here want out.
