They currently are most suited for long duration, low thrust needs of deep space travel ie solar system travel, although I think small ion thrusters are being used for satellites. Anyway there is nothing mysterious or top secret about them. They are far from a warp drive which are complete fiction.... If man ever makes it to Mars, I think it will be with a newer technology - either a much better ion drive or some type of nuclear drive.

No that helps the image too. 99% of the paradigms offered are totally the intellectual equivalent of cheap Chinese knock-offs! How many times have you seen a "new" thread hereabouts and thought "OMIGOSH! THAT AGAIN??
