The LDS Church is transferring 169 of its 327 missionaries in Nicaragua to other countries due to political unrest, including anti-government protests that have led to dozens of deaths.

"Due to growing political instability in Nicaragua, the church is in the process of transferring 169 missionaries out of that country," said Daniel Woodruff, spokesman for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. "This includes 37 missionaries from the Nicaragua Managua North Mission, all of whom were nearing the end of their service and will return home. In the Nicaragua Managua South Mission, 20 missionaries will return home while 112 missionaries will be temporarily reassigned to other missions in North America, South America and the Caribbean."

Church officials are moving the remaining 158 Mormon missionaries in Nicaragua to safe areas away from the unrest.

All Mormon Missionaries transferring out of Nicaragua

The LDS Church is moving its remaining 158 Missionaries from Nicaragua due to continued violence, according to a church spokesman.
"Those missionaries are being moved to temporary assignments in North America, South America, the Caribbean and New Zealand," Daniel Woodruff said. "Most of these missionaries have already left the country. All others awaiting travel are in a safe location and will arrive in their new assignments in the next several days."

Just half were moved out, now they are all out.

I know a sister who was serving in Nicaragua. When the church Newsroom reported missionaries were being moved her family was inundated with questions about how she was, where she was going, where she was at that point in time, etc. The parents knew nothing. The first and only thing they had heard about this was from the press release.

I'm not sure if they were missed in the communication loop, but I found it extremely troubling that families wouldn't be notified immediately about these kinds of changes impacting their kids. As of yesterday the family still didn't have any detail about where their daughter was or where she would be going. One would think a simple email to all missionary families effected would be a quick and easy place to start instead of letting them learn about it in a press release.
