Private Groups Of Members Meeting Together

Recommended Posts

You are the one who brought up Card's quote about doubt.  And we learn it was about doubting General Authorities flying first class?

I brought it up incidentally to another point that was being made. It was not my intent to explore it in depth. If you choose to do so, I suggest a separate thread.

Meanwhile, I suppose the individual reader can go to the link and form his/her own conclusion about the blog post.

As though I cared enough to do so?

Why don't you report the alleged "piling on" instead of going on and on about it here?

I said one thing about it, Scott.  It's you and Mola who got all bent out of shape and made it a bigger issue than necessary.

Oh, I didn't report it because I don't feel the need to go running to teacher every time grown ups should be able to self-correct in a reasonable manner.

So I take it you've never reported anything to the moderators, then?

One time in seven years, Scott, have I reported another poster.  One time.  And it had to do with an issue on the topic of suicide.

Other than that, I can only recall reporting a spam post or two from bots.

Like Scott, I remember the Church recommending against such groups. I think it was back in the 90's. (I doubt they'd approve of this board either).

And like Nehor I've seen such groups lead people into apostasy.

I think the Church ban came around the same time as the September 6 incident and was pretty widely known.

In the last 60 years I have seen this warning come out several times.

DB if you are really trying to help get your Stake Presidents approval and guidance.

For family home evening my friend, whom I'm staying with, has his brother and sister in law over. They alternate books of the standard works and each week someone suggests a scripture for the next week. I've sat in a couple times. I mostly keep to myself as I'm not sure how to respond. However, it is comical to hear them bicker over scripture and what it says or how the context develops a bigger message. I am participating a week from tomorrow. I'm considering drawing relationship between Psalm 139 and Proverbs 8.

I'm sure this was off topic. Apologies.

This is the reason for the strong discouragement for holding such gatherings.

Is there an official statement that says I need a leaders permission to meet with other mormons? Until then, no need to tell a groupvof folks here who have no authority whether I did. And your last assumtion is what I call a false assumption..

This attitude is somewhat troubling.  Why would you not welcome the Stake Presidents guidance and blessing?

Now that this is settled can we discuss the evils of progressive dinners?

Ok, this did make me laugh :)

Comic relief?

But on a serious note, progressive dinners could be considered meeting together in a member's home without permission.

Ad hom alert.

Do you really know what is an ad hominem?  If I say that I don't look to Voltaire as a source of spiritual strength, is that an ad hominem?

There is a difference between a person's body of work and the person, a distinction usually lost here.

Having said that, poor Bill Reel.  Why not pat him on the back, encourage him in good works and realize nobody's perfect?
