A Guessing Game -- Can You Find The Missing Answer?

Maybe this is too juvenile for most folks here, but it's

the sort of thing I waste my time on -- doing web searches:

Clues:

Deseret Stock Company

Millfield College

Sister Ada Patterson

O call back yesterday, bid time return.

Grand Hotel

Question:

Once I was famous; now I'm forgotten.

My first name starts with "M"

My last name is the same as Bro. Joseph's Nauvoo ghost-writer.

Who am I?

Maude Adams (apparently).

Although wasn't Joseph's Nauvoo ghost-writer more W.W. Phelps than James Adams?

Phelps did a lot of the ghost-writing, but I think most of the political

stuff from the Nauvoo era came via G. J. Adams. He was a would-be

thespian himself and "played upon the boards" at Beaver Island

before Brigham ever set up his own theatre in SLC.

Looks like I made this one too easy.

Next time, I'll come up with something more obscure.

Er, mebbe that thar JLHPROF fella jist be 'mart! :D

Well, I can tell that he has the text of Shakespeare's Richard II down pat in his memory.

How he connected in Millfield College, I'm not sure -- as it was not mentioned in the

Richard Matheson novel -- just in the Hollywood adaptation of Matheson's book.

Maybe I should have left out Ada Patterson -- a ten second web-search

would tell anybody what LDS biographies she might have written.

Oh well...

What's the next riddle/question Uncle Dale, this is fun to read!

I sailed the seas and on June 20th Captain Richardson showed me the coconut trees.

I followed the rainbow, till I found a pot of gold, but in the end I lost it all.

When Brother Brigham told me to settle in The Valley, I re-read my Las Sergas de Esplandian.

Who am I?

enjoy...

I read all kinds of things per Google, and have come to determine that it might be Samuel Brannan, maybe.  Thanks for the history lesson!  Next one please...:)

Golly -- I AM making these games too easy!

How about a more difficult one.

...

My namesake had a son, who had a son, who said:

"All the rivers run into the sea..."

They say Sampson was eyeless in the city printed

right after my surname in that 1830 city directory.

Minerva talked me out of my decision, but not before

I saw where the Garden of Eden once stood...

Who am I?

Minerva Pritchert's husband...

GG

Oh -- so now we're trying to identify "Minerva" as well?

Here's a hint on her identity:

"My Annie Grammy was MARY-B"

Sampson eyeless indicates biblical, misread the clue...

Think it was Gaza checking...

Can't be Gaza at least nothing coming up off of Google maps besides an unincorporated.

1830 was when the Church was founded in Fayette.

Wiki was better:

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaza,_New_Hampshire

Not finding a city directory though:

Solomon is the alleged author of Ecclesiastes (all rivers to the sea is in there), so the namesake would be David's dad, Jesse.

Someone who was in Missouri given the Eden reference

Jesse Gause....

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jesse_Gause

Wiki says Gause was not reconciled with his wife, Minerva. I am assuming you are saying she influenced him to leave the Mormons since she had joined the Shakers, but did not go with him when he became LDS. Is this a guess as wiki says why he left is unknown and he appeared to be estranged from his family.

All through google btw...I did early Mormon Jesse since that was the one name I was sure of and got Gause which obviously tied into Gaza....was there an actual city directory and if so what city was it?

Gee, you're smart.

The anagram for maryb, of course works out to "Byram,"

which was Minerva's maiden name. She may (or may not)

have remained with Jesse after he left the First Presidency.

I'll have to try harder next time.

When a Fox and a Paper Bag get together, I'll buy

the offspring's legal papers -- for cheap.

Did I say I was never a Mormon? Well, I guess

that Mr. K__ set the record straight on that point.

Rev. Caswall seems to have trusted him. But Mr. K_

abandoned Zarahemla: I returned and remained.

Mary Ann Laws' dad resided in Brotherly Love when

I did; and we both sent Bro. Joseph our respects...

Saving for tomorrow, up early for me tomorrow so equally early night...

I wasn't quite sure about Mary Ann Laws, until I checked the

old records of the Moravian Church. If I have her figured

out correctly, she and another woman started up a millinery

business -- rather venturesome for an unmarried lady of

the Victorian era.

I wonder if her dad really did meet Joseph Smith -- he was

in the right place at the right time to have done so, but

nobody seems to have cared to write about the Gentiles

who might have stopped by Lombard Street on that

eventful day (well, eventful for Mary Ann, at least).
