Best ever?   Would really need to know more about you to specifically recommend anything...

But some of my all-time favorites include Shawshank Redemption, Life is Beautiful, Inception, Wizard of Oz, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Jaws and several of the Pixar films.

Trying to be eclectic and shooting only for very good. Seven Days in May could never be in the top five, but it is so little known for being so well done. Great is much harder. I have watched all of these more than once and would do so again. Given the perameters by Clam, I would suggest strongly My Fair Lady and/or Singing in the Rain.

Casablanca

The Quiet Man

Apollo 13

The Adventures of Robin Hood (Flynn and deHavilland)

Singin' in the Rain

My Fair Lady

The Godfather (all three, nod to Ron Beron)

Band of Brothers

The Big Country

The Mountain (Spencer Tracy and a young Robert Wagner)

Henry V (Branagh)

Much Ado About Nothing (Branagh)

Lord of the Rings

Frost/Nixon

Pride and Prejudice (nod to bluebell). There are scenes in this work which I can see over and over.

A Few Good Men

Signs

Shawshank Redemption

Seven Days in May

Elf

Gladiator

Hook

Hotel Rwanda

Sherlock (BBC television series)

The Avengers

The New Guy

The Last of the Mohicans

Harry Potter (all of them)

Downton Abbey (another BBC television series)

I highly recommend Sherlock and Downton Abbey

Sorry to say it , but if you haven't seen Clint Eastwood's first spaghetti Western, A Fist Full of Dollars , or his last ( probably) Western, Unforgiven, then you have missed some good ones.

Ham didn't want Westerns...but...Unforgiven...It is terrible...almost horror in a way... very believable...about the reality of the act of killing another person...great choice. I don't know how I forgot that one.

Tacenda...

I can hardly bear to watch "The Way We Were" because it is so sad in the end... the last scene when they hug and say goodbye is just haartbreaking... (but I do love the  story).

Wasn't that with Henry Fonda? I think it was Henry Fonda's last movie.

I so knew that it was Henry Fonda, and Jane Fonda even played his daughter in the movie. What's wrong with me? I am losing it! Very good movie, and love Henry's role, reminds me of my dad.
