Walden Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 I don't know I mean if you are truly representing Christ, shouldn't there be a little honesty to go along with it. This is the pot calling the kettle black.....maybe if the LDS church had a history of being completely honest and forthright regarding some of it's own history (think head in a hat, Joseph Smith's polygamy, etc., etc.), there might be less outside influences trying to teach members with regard to LDS history.
thesometimesaint Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 Mormons don't always make it easy for non-Mormons. Mormons aren't in agreement about what it is they believe, so a non-Mormon will hear one thing from one Mormon only to be told by another Mormon that Mormons don't believe what the first Mormon said Mormons believe. Was Elohim possibly a sinner in a past life? (Did Elohim even have a past life?) Depends on which Mormon you put the question to. Mormons could clear up some of the confusion by acknowledging that some of the "made up" stuff is actually of Mormon origin. Sure, there are other things, like the "temple orgies," that aren't from Mormons at all. But too often Mormons dismiss a belief attributed to Mormonism as a "misconception" when it's really closer to a "minority view that was formerly a majority view." Welcome to the glass menagerie. Doctrinally speaking God the Father is perfect. We have no theology either way as if he sinned or not, but believe Jesus the Christ was the only person on this planet whom ever didn't sin. The Mormon Temple orgies is a damnable lie. EVERYTHING done in the Temple is geared towards Christ including the Law of Chastity.
Calm Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 Having no theology is not the same as having no speculation. I get the impression Parsec is simply suggesting that along with teaching doctrine, we include that some LDS like to fill in gaps in our theology with speculation.

Sure, as long as it is clearly demarcated as speculation.
Parsec Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 I thought speculation was allowed in the LDS church, as long as -- like thesometimesaint says -- it's not confused with doctrine.
Calm Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 It very much is, it just shouldn't be taught in church itself imo. At least not on a regular basis.

Seems kind of odd to me.
dberrie2000 Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 You are begotten of your parents, not made. Jesus is the only begotten of God. We and the angels are made. There is a difference between creature and Created. To say Satan is a brother to Jesus, says that Satan is begotten not made, which means you believe Satan is God Paul cartainly believed satan was a god: 2 Corinthians 4:4---King James Version (KJV)4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
dberrie2000 Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 Right, but LDS always leave out the clear teaching that we are made sons and daughters by adoption, and take literally what is not literal.
Silhouette Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 How does one edit their replies here?Click somewhere in the middle of your posted content. At the very bottom two buttons will appear. One says "Edit". Click on that and your content will appear in a smaller window. You can then scroll down and fix whatever you want to change. Then go to the bottom again and there is a "Submit Revised Post". Click on that and you're done.
KevinG Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 Sometimes I get weary of sharing the same answers over and over again, only to have a new crop of indoctrinated zealots try to convince me how wrong my beliefs are after telling me what my beliefs are. Hence my long hiatus from discussion boards. Well that and gainful employment. That interferes too.

I'm obviously not dong something right. Can you help me find a solution?

I think there is a minimum number of posts before you get the superpowers that the rest of the board has. You are in noob perdition.

dberrie2000 Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 (edited) Got to get to 25. Is 25 the magic number? If so--this post should do it. Mola--I'm editing this post now--you were right. It takes 25 posts. Hurrah! Edited October 21, 2014 by dberrie2000 1
