VideoGameJunkie Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 I'm 28 and it would be awesome if it happened in my lifetime, but guess how many years away we are from the 2nd coming.
altersteve Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 I don't think it will happen in my lifetime, or the lifetime of anyone on this Earth right now. I believe we still have a ways to go.
VideoGameJunkie Posted March 16, 2014 Author Posted March 16, 2014 A lot of the signs of the times are coming true already. We may have a ways to go, but I feel we're getting close.
thesometimesaint Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 I'm 28 and it would be awesome if it happened in my lifetime, but guess how many years away we are from the 2nd coming. When I was a young 28 I thought it would be within 20 years. Now at 62 It doesn't matter if I go to see him or if he comes to see me as long as the results are the same. 1
K-2 Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 D&C 110:14-16 (given April 3, 1836)14 Behold, the time has fully come, which was spoken of by the mouth of Malachi—testifying that he [Elijah] should be sent, before the great and dreadful day of the Lord come—15 To turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the children to the fathers, lest the whole earth be smitten with a curse—16 Therefore, the keys of this dispensation are committed into your hands; and by this ye may know that the great and dreadful day of the Lord is near, even at the doors.
Garden Girl Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 Sometimes I think it is closer than we realize... because as I look around the world it just seems events are happening very quickly. My feeling is within 50 years. I won't see it but perhaps some of you will, or your children... I mean, how much longer can we continue on... we have wickedness morally, socially... even politically. Now it's just a matter of degrees. If you think of any type of wickedness, it's here and available... what is the scripture? The 2nd coming will happen when the world is as wicked as in the days of Noah? I'd say we've pretty much reached that point of availability... now IMO it's more of how widespread it becomes as people embrace various aspects. I often think of Heavenly Father saying, Okay, that's enough! GG... happy because I just watched BYU men's volleyball do another 3-game sweep.. .tonight of UC San Diego... that's two nights in a row... Go Cougs!
The Nehor Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 I figure within the next 100-300 years but don't quote me on that. 1
Brian 2.0 Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 Thinking it's gonna be "soon" is a common thought. Those in Paul's day thought it was happening soon. Same with many in the early years of the restoration. And in sure throughout the generations since. It seems to be consistently "nigh" no matter when you live.

erdoch Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 22nd Century. If not then, the 23rd century. It won't be in our lifetimes, at least. We still have to reach every "nation, kindred, tongue and people." With 7000 languages on the planet there's still a lot to go (even if that number halves in the next 50-100 years). I think the current number of Book of Mormon translations stands at 107.
erdoch Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 Matt 24:36 KJV "No man knoweth the day or the hour ... But what about the week or the month? Though, seriously, I admit I'm not even sure of the century. I feel pretty confident about the millennium it will happen in though. 1
EllenMaksoud Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 But what about the week or the month? Though, seriously, I admit I'm not even sure of the century. I feel pretty confident about the millennium it will happen in though.I sometimes suspect that it is humans that are holding it up. We wish to be rescued in the midst of squabbling and killing each other. What if we are expected to grow enough to settle our differences and live in peace before we move on to the next life. Were I God, I would not want heathenous malcontents tracking up my carpets, leaving their dirty dishes in the sink, leaving the seat up, throwing your insideout socks on the floor, and returning the car out of gas with dents in it. 2
strappinglad Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 God's 'soon' and our 'soon' have no real correlation( just for you Kenngo) . If one day with the Lord is 1000 years with us, then one minute with the Lord is .69 years with us. The time since the restoration has been just under 4.5 hours of the Lord's time. I think we can give Him a few more minutes before He gets a yellow card for stalling. 1
Duncan Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 well if you talk to certain folk in our stake it should have happened in 1975 if the Church had just listened to Pres. Kimball but we are so unrighteous that we are really slowing things down-that is according to one person's recollection of what Elder Rex D. Pinegar told him in 1985 of what Pres. Kimball told him in 1975. So there you have it
Grudunza Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 There is a point when the term "latter day" starts to stretch a little too long. It's already been 180 years... Then again, several hundred years out of thousands of human/theological history could still be the "latter" of them all. So it could be a while yet.
slamarwi Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 My guess - approximately 30-35 years after the opening of the seventh seal. So, at 52, it's not likely I'll be here. But if the things happen that are prophesied, I'd rather watch from the bleachers.
Storm Rider Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 I think there are times when we may focus on the end times and seeking for signs. This is a way that does not lead us in preparation, but leads us in fear. I don't think we need to focus on the hour of his coming, but in being prepared for that coming. We need to learn to be honest with ourselves as we reflect on our actions and thoughts. I know that I still need to learn how to maintain a penitent heart. I am too often too calloused to care about how poorly, effectively I walk the path of discipleship and holiness. Life seems to easily crowd and my commitment weakens and is pushed aside by the mundane matters of this life.
The Nehor Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 I calculated it once. We are two years late. Either Daniel was wrong or my interpretation was wrong. I am going to go ahead and blame Daniel.
Rivers Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 Maybe there is no designated time. What if Christ is waiting for us to be prepared however long that takes?
jaxenro Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 When God is readyJoseph Fielding Smith said tomorrow. Don't think he meant it literally but soon. Look what's happening in the Crimea today, with the vote, the world could fall apart in a week. It is more fragile than some thinkMy Patriarchial blessing said in my lifetime if I remained faithful. I didn't so if it doesn't happen soon you can blame me. 1
Bikeemikey Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 In thinking we build a space ship and go find God - force his hand a little.

jaxenro Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 No clue nor do I know what God tells the president of the Church. He doesnt confide in me. All I know is what it says.
HiJolly Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 Why would God tell your Patriarch that and not the President of the Church or anyone else for that matter?Because it is a personal matter. Just my opinion, but the Saints in Jesus' day believed His second coming was imminent. The faithful followers of Christ have always seen it as imminent. I believe that a public, global world-event Second Coming was never meant by Christ, originally, but rather reflects a personal spiritual event that is personally imminent for His disciples.
Duncan Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 No clue nor do I know what God tells the president of the Church. He doesnt confide in me. All I know is what it says. So, if the 2nd coming of Jesus doesn't happen it's all because of you? or if it does happen it's all because of you? That's a lot of pressure!!!! 1
