Can I Share Some New Music I Found?

This isn't for everyone, but I ran into this band, Hayajan, which is based in Saudi Arabia.  The five members are an Iranian and four Jordanians.  I guess they call their musical style Arab Alternative.  They do a cover of Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb" that sounds far better than even Pink Floyd ever did it.  I think part of the charm is that its sung in Arabic, so you are not distracted by the lyrics (unless you understand Arabic).

Hey Stargazer.

Thanks for that! I played it out loud and made everybody in the room curious about who that was.

I am not as familiar with this as other of Pink Floyd's work, but I haven't see the lyrics as promoting the condition about which they are singing. I could be mistaken, but I had figured that this song was a dark but thoughtful reflection on the ills of modern society. But the cover is very good. I don't think I could tell the difference really.

This song is part of the rock opera The Wall.  It deals with the main protagonist's mental collapse over trying to deal with everything.

And I don't really care for the rock opera, nor the lyrics of this song.  The fact that the lyrics here are in Arabic is one of the chief attractions of this cover.  That and the fact that in my humble opinion these guys do a better job on this song than Pink Floyd ever did.  And I am a fan of PF.  The Dark Side of the Moon and Umma Gumma are among my most favorite albums.

Astronomy Domine!

PS: I bought the album that this song is on, and pretty much all the tracks are great.  Only one other track is a cover of a song originally done in English; the rest seem to be covers of originally Arabic tunes.  Marvelous stuff.

Another interesting fact, and what led me to the group in the first place is that that recent viral video "No woman, No drive" was apparently posted on YouTube by Alaa Wardi, who is the lead singer on the Comfortably Numb cover by Hayajan.

Here's "No woman, No drive":
