Patreece
The book of Mormon says in Mosiah 13:16-19:"Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labor and do all thy work; But the seventh day, the sabbath of the Lord thy God, thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy man-servant, nor thy maid-servant, not thy cattle, nor any stranger that is within thy gates; for in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it."Even though it says this, is it okay that we keep the first day (Sunday) as Sabbath instead of the seventh? or can we keep any day we choose as long as we feel in our hearts that it's right? in this seventh day thing just a minor detail? Calm
How does one know that the seventh day of the Nephites is the same seventh day today? There is no way to demonstrate that Adam's, Mosiah's, Christ's and JS's calendar coincided. If so, then it doesn't matter where one starts one's week as long as one sets aside a 'seventh' day for God's special worship. In Isreal and Arab countries whose seventh day is on Friday night to Saturday night, LDS hold their Sabbath on those days so that there is less conflict with the surrounding culture (and thus more able to get off work for the full day, etc.) 1 Link to comment

The "Sabbath" was a requirement of OT commandments. The point today is "resting" one day in seven to worship God, or to turn our whole hearts to him. Link to comment

Of course Jumah prayer was on Friday, but then they would have classes on Sunday and call that "Sunday School". The dream of my heart is to have Mormon Missionaries standing outside the Holy Masjid in Macca, Saudi Arabia. I do not know if it will come when I am alive, but I do not think it will be that long. Just about ever Muslim I know is sick of the "Fighters" making the world more miserable. Link to comment
blackstrap
If you were stranded alone on a desert isle and had no calendar or watch etc. to tell you what day it was, you could pick a day in 7 as your Sabbath. If and when you were rescued, you might find out that you had been observing Thursday as a Sabbath. I wonder if God would hold that against you? Link to comment
Calm
Where I served my mission, in Sweden, Sunday is the 7th day. The week begins on Monday. It never made sense to me to call it the weekend, but have Sunday be the first day of the week...thus in my mind Monday has always been the first day and it takes a conscious effort to think of it differently. It didn't help that when I was very young I thought Tuesday was Twosday..meaning the second day of the week. Link to comment
blackstrap
Onesday,Twosday,Threesday,Foursday,Fivesday,Sixsday,Sevensday.... makes at least as much sense as naming them after moons and planets and Norse Gods etc.I think several calendars around the world start the week with Monday.France? Tacenda
I kinda like the New Testament version of the Sabbath that some EV's believe. The Sabbath was basically an Old Testament works commandment that was done away with when Christ died on the Cross. Everyday should be a day of remembrance of Him. Link to comment

blackstrap
A 7 day week is pretty much universal, but were there significant civilizations that had a different length, say a metric week of 10 days or some such? Link to comment

Following the same logic, why should Christmas be celebrated, as every day should be a remembrance of Him. I think of this much the same way I think when people don't get Valentine's Day (or birthdays, or whatnot) by saying that why should there be a special day to show love and affection when one should be doing that every day. Of course! However, it is nice to have a special time to commemorate that. Link to comment

What then? I'm just seeing the legalistic side of it. I do take it seriously though. My 15 yr. old is starting to say he is being forced to go to church. He just got a Learner's Permit for driving so we were able to talk in a more intimate environment and I told him we need to give atleast one day of worship to Him. I told him if he didn't go to our church he could go to another church or he could go visit the elderly in a rest home. I also told him that if we don't worship or believe in God who's to say there isn't a hell? Sorta strong language huh? But I do believe we need to give a day to Him in this respect but hopefully along the way getting that relationship or conversion to where it is worship on a daily basis, to which I'm very far from and need to believe a lot better than I have. 1 Link to comment
thesometimesaint
The early Christians transferred Sunday(named after the sun God) worship to Sonday worship. Where we recognized the Son as God. Link to comment
