EllenMaksoud
The topic you just closed. If it was not about Mormonisim, I do not know what is. I thought your closing it was rather pompous. I'm finished with you. Link to comment

And what you said was perfectly in line with Mormonism, but I guess some things don't fly around here and some that are really over the line do, but I still love me some MD&D! (Edit to Add: Don't take it personally, it's happened to probably most of us on the board.) Edited November 12, 2012 by Tacenda 1 Link to comment

I was not scared, just MAD. What the original poster said was like so totally true. I will NOT be bullied and that is what it felt like. Thanks for the kind words though. 2 Link to comment
bluebell
If you are talking about the thread by pete of his testimony on why he believes the church is true, it was closed because it violated board rules. "Testimony" threads are not allowed, because if they were, then "anti-testimony" threads would have to be allowed as well. Threads about a person, rather than a topic are also against the rules. They never turn out well because no one can disagree without it being very personal. It doesn't matter if a thread is heartfelt, nice, about mormonism, or by a wonderful member. If it doesn't obey the rules of the forum it get's closed.I didn't see that the mod addressed you at all, so maybe i'm thinking of the wrong thread. If not, i don't understand why you would feel bullied or take the mod closing someone else's thread personally at all. Edited November 12, 2012 by bluebell 2 Link to comment

Calm
The mods can't be on the board 24/7 to ensure that everyone treats others right so they have chosen to eliminate certain topics that tend to lead to hurt feelings or judgmental comments. Personal threads are high on that list (so are politics) because when people talk about their problems, one of the automatic responses is to try to help them with suggestions but often the suggestions can come across as overly judgmental. Look at the example where he felt hurt by what someone had said elsewhere, no doubt the same thing would eventually happen here if it hadn't already even if it hadn't been meant as it is too hard to communciate clearly with just the written word. I read a study once that stated the majority of communication on the Internet resulted in misunderstandings and IIRC, it was at least 70% of communications that qualified. When you are dealing with sensitive issues, that rate of misunderstanding is unacceptable and therefore people---in this case the mods---have decided it is best to avoid situations that lead to these dangerous and painful misunderstandings. It is not about whether the personal comments are right or wrong, good or bad. It is simply they are personal comments and therefore are not appropriate for this venue where responses cannot be carefully controled without an time commitment from the mods that is unreasonable (basically they would have to read each post before approving it to be posted.)Plus you get into the problem as bluebell pointed out when it comes to personal discussions what is to be allowed and what isn't...is someone discussing his issues with his wife online for the world to see a wise thing...absolutely not, so a kind mod would stop that and save the man from his own error. Then there is the issue of what is appropriate to be allowed to be promoted, the mods want to make this a comfortable place for nonLDS as well as LDS so while sharing one's beliefs in a positive way is acceptable within a topic, having a topic purely on promoting a particular belief system isn't because then challenges come and where challenges are, offense is most likely to follow on one side or another. It may not happen with each poster so no one should assume that the mods think that they are in the wrong, it is only a generalized approach to avoid the pitfalls that have been demonstrated on sufficiently in the past. Religion in and of itself is a very volatile subject. In order to allow for decent discussion on that topic, the mods have chosen to limit some other topics even if related that would raise the temperature of the board to exploding rather than at the slow simmer level it usually stays at.It is not a personal judgment on a poster or post as can be demonstrated by reading the rules and seeing what is and isn't allowed. If someone isn't comfortable with such limitations, then that is unfortunate but long experience has led the mods to this position so I don't think there will be any change very soon so either one needs to change one's expectations or find another board more suited to what one wants to discuss. It would be nice to have a board that everyone loves, but just isn't logisitically possible (speaking as a mod whose board---not this one---worked very, very hard to accommodate everyone's wants and desires and ended up pleasing no one and dying...). 2 Link to comment
3DOP
So long Ellen. You're LDS and don't like the LDS board. I am Catholic and get into trouble at the Catholic board. You always hurt the ones you love? Or maybe they hurt you? Whatever...Anyway...Just for the record...I am NOT finished. Not here at the LDS board anyway. I have enjoyed being here since 2004 and the mods have never said one word of admonition to me. But I am finished and forever banned from Catholic Answers!I am hoping that some surgery on my neck will relieve some of the discomfort that has limited my recent participation. I see the neurosurgeon tomorrow. See y'all soon.3DOP Edited November 13, 2012 by 3DOP 4 Link to comment

Unfortunately, the Catholic Board is quite liberal in their banning of people. It is a very unfortunate situation and not a good representation of the vast majority of great Catholic members that exist. We are just glad to have your participate here.Let us know how things turn out. You are in my prayers, Link to comment
