wasatchm
my ward has been announcing that there will be no church on the BC temple dedication sunday this month. I know an interview with the bishop or a bishopric member is required (actually, I think to if you have a current temple recommend then you don't really have an interview per se...you just show them your recommend and they give you a ticket). if you don't have a temple recommend then I think you have some type of interview. my question is, is the questions for a temple dedication interview the same as for a regular temple recommend interview (or very similair)? I am an actively attending endowed member. I am sure I am probably not worthy of a regular temple recommend (it expired 9 months ago). but I would think since no church service is being held that sunday, then the church would be trying to get everyone to attend that has that desire. I would like to attend some type of church service somewhere on that sunday. I'd prefer not to do an interview if it's the same as a regular temple recommend interview (as I know I am not quite ready for that yet). I would hoping the bishopric would explain a little more the details each time they announced it, but they haven't. all responses are much appreciated. Link to comment

Of course the church wants as many people over the age of eight to attend, the more the merrier, but certain standards must still be met. Link to comment
wasatchm
I can understand doing a temple dedication on sunday...in place of regular ward church. as it shows members how important the temple and it's ordinances are. yet at the same time, I could see some members feeling left out if they have nowhere to worship on that day. maybe there just aren't that many members that would get left out. as I would think that most members that want to religiously attend church service every sunday are in fact worthy to attend a temple dedication. and those that don't attend church that often probably don't care whether they attend a temple dedication of just not attend any church services that sunday. BCSpace
For an adult, the questions will be the same. Might as well get an actual recommend if you can. Yes, a current TR is all that is needed for an adult, no ticket necessary. Baptized youth 8 and over will need a ticket and that interview will be the same as for going to do baptisms for the dead though of course we are always sensitive to the really young ones and the questions will be much more basic in their case. However, as it is also considered a missionary/reactivation effort the one time ticket can be issued to an adult without any major issues. Short term non payment of tithing and perhaps still struggling but making progress on WoW issues will probably be the most likely to slide for the ticket. Notice I said "likely"; that is no guarentee. Unresolved adultery/fornication issues will certainly not slide though if you are in the process of Church Discipline but the requesite time hasn't passed, it's possible one might slide for the one time ticket depending on one's progress. It's Bishop's discretion and may well also be based on the counsel of the various Stake Presidents in each Stake. So I wouldn't expect "apparently similar" issues from person to person to be treated the same from Bishop to Bishop. In fact, for all "apparently similar" cases for all time and for any purpose I wouldn't necessarily expect similar treatment as the Bishops and the Stake Presidents have the keys to judge a person's heart and commitment and each person is going to be different though the actual issue might be the same. The principles are always the same though. The fact that one is willing to come in and work on their problems is always a good sign. For people still struggling with guilt and shame we highly encourage them to end that hell now and take advantage of the Atonement regardless of whether or not one gets a ticket for this event. The sooner it ends, the better. Edited September 3, 2012 by BCSpace 1 Link to comment
Garden Girl
I've attended two long-distance temple dedications where we needed a current temple recommend... since I already had mine I didn't have to go through an interview, but my understanding is that the ward building where the dedication was going to be telecast became an extension of the temple with the same requirements for entry. About an hour before the dedication the building was "swept" to be sure everyone was out, the building dedicated/consecrated for that event, and the doors were locked and two entraces only were available with someone assigned to check the recommends just like when you enter a regular temple.GG Edited September 3, 2012 by Garden Girl 1 Link to comment

MorningStar
I wish I could go. My ancestors are from Brigham City. My great-great-great grandfather was one of the first people to join the church in Denmark and after he was beaten almost to death by a mob, he and is family came to Brigham City. Link to comment
rpn
Go and talk to your bishop, He is the one who can decide. And yes, I can see how heart wrenching being kept out of the temple on a normal sabbath would be. Hopefully for those who find themselves in that situation it can be an invitation to move them to where they need to be. Link to comment
bluebell
Our family was in the SLC area this weekend and we took the kids to the open house of the BC temple. It was beautiful. As for the OP, i really don't have any idea, and though i've been to two dedications, i don't remember how that process worked. It must be a little different from regular temple interviews in some way though, since children over the age of 8 may attend and it seems like they would not be held to the same standards of belief and conduct as an adult.
