Calm
Considering how many children he had, I just don't see being his descendant as that remarkable. Give it a few more generations and it will be like Charlemagne where all of Europe practically are his gggggkids.BTW, what descendant isn't a "direct descendant"? Link to comment
ERayR
I was once acquainted with one of Brigham Young's great grandsons who left the church because he liked to drink beer. Point is, it doesn't matter who you are related to, it doesn't imbue one with great wisdom. Link to comment

KevinG
I'm descended from Charlemaigne, Edward III and several Kings of Scotland. When are they going to interview me about my political opinions? Link to comment
mapman
An internet search tells me that Brigham Young had 56 children, 204 grandchildren and 745 great grandchildren. I don't know how accurate those numbers are, but they seem reasonable. If we assume that each of these g-grandchildren had 3 kids each (that's probably low) then you get like 2,235 gg-grandchildren. The article is just ridiculous. Link to comment
Pahoran
And she's being touted as "Mormon royalty." Yeah, right. Like she was supposed to have inherited some special degree of knowledge about something or other. And notice why she left the Church: after she ran some sort of "retreat," which she just knew would not be approved, she was "treated differently." How, exactly? She doesn't say. IOW, she was having a Proverbs 28:1 moment.Regards,Pahoran Link to comment
The Nehor
Judging by the video she certainly didn't inherit her speaking ability from the 'royal' side of the family. Link to comment
blackstrap
When are we going to hear from Brigham's 'carriage' driver? He must have been privy to all sorts of goings on. Link to comment
Scott Lloyd
Claiming some special dispensation of knowledge or insight because the person is descended from a Church leader is only slightly more stupid than claiming it because the person is a former bishopric member -- which, in some people's eyes, includes having served as ward clerk or executive secretary. After all you're probably suffering from " “the entitled Mormon male syndrome". At least she's an equal opportunist insulter. Both men and women are assaulted.oh well back to grovelling at my Bishops feet. Link to comment
KevinG
With this many Brigham Young descendants there isn't that much time left before the election for each of them to have their 15 minutes of fame. The Utah press better get crackin'! Link to comment
Buzzard
Is it unfair to speculate that before November, just about every ex-mormon with a blog and/or a posting on any exmormon forum will get a feature article in some east coast or national paper/magazine? Just like a certain political organization dispatched researchers to Alaska last election cycle to dig up dirt on Sarah Palin, I suspect that Utah will be crawling with reporters this fall looking for dirt on the LDS church.I guess a certain other political organization deserves it for putting forth a candidate without a history of divorce, substance abuse, or youthful arrests. thesometimesaint
It could be malice, but I don't expect nonmembers to know all the details of Mormon history. Though a little bit of fact checking before publication would be nice. Link to comment

Though a little bit of fact checking before publication would be nice.Non-member or not, it doesn't take a great deal of intellect to realize at once that, from sheer numbers alone, there's nothing remarkable about being somebody's great-great-grandchild, especially when the ancestor was a polygamist with extensive progeny. thesometimesaint
I've never given any media very much credit for having much intellect. Go back far enough and everyone is related somehow. Link to comment
Ron Beron
So, is "lying for the Lord" something I did for two years on my mission and the x number of years since I've been home? News to me. There is such a dearth of knowledge about the LDS both the press and the public will believe anything that they are told. While this woman seems sincere :::snicker::: why spend so much time in destroying the thing that she once respected? She needs to get a life. Whilst I didn't read that she had any current religious leanings I would encourage to go help someone with some or her anti-Mormon sincerity. Plant a garden, visit the sick, teach a kid to read are all things she could do, but instead she spends her time at meetings dedicated to only one thing; deconstructing the LDS belief.BEWARE THE MORMONS!!! Without exception, it is used with malice aforethought by people who have no intention of carrying on a discussion in good faith -- if, indeed, they even know what that is.Regards,Pahoran Link to comment
