Blacks and the Church

Recommended Posts

I read an article re:the BYU honor code, and how it is directed at blacks written in part by Darron Smith who is evidently a member of the church and black.

This article sheds BYU in a very negative life from the author's perspective and brings up a one-sided (in my opinion) view of the history of the church and "minorities."

Where can I go to see a more balanced assesment of said history?

His article is on a websited called deadspin.

Also, I heard him on a Las Vegas sports radio station yesterday.

I find such a charge baffling... particularly since every student, repreat, every, student must sign and agree to live by the Code if they want to attend BYU. If it is too much, they may choose to attend another university. As I mentioned on a similar thread, I signed when I returned my application way back in 1959. I arrived on campus fully aware of the Code, and the consequences if I would choose to ignore it. Race had nothing to do with it.
