Calm
OK, I get it. Those were stupid questions.Gaia....have you considered Asherah as an alternative? Or are you thinking specifically of a goddess who was equated with the earth? Link to comment
volgadon
OK, I get it. Those were stupid questions. No, they were superb observations, they just got lost in all the off-topic nonsense. BTW, couldn't find Gaia or Earth in Moses 7:10. Link to comment
TAO
volgadon, he is talking of the Enoch's relationship with the Earth, I believe. The earth is sorta thought of like a person... with a personality 0.o. Link to comment
volgadon
I know, but 7:10 doesn't mention it at all. Link to comment

I'm more comfortable thinking in ANE or Celtic terms than GrecoRoman ones. The classical world feels kind of "preppy?" to me." Link to comment

David Bokovoy
OK, I get it. Those were stupid questions.Hey Friend,These really were great questions. I'm afraid this is what happens when these thread become filled up with bickering, good questions/observations get lost. Regarding your first point, I believe your observation hits the nail on the head, and I brought up the quotes by President Packer and Joseph Smith either earlier in this thread or in the one on Social Justice; can't remember.Your second point, it's a great question, but I'm afraid that I'm not familiar with the term. If I understand, correctly, Asherah/Heavenly Mother (the goddes/creatrix of the entire universe) and Rhea/Danu (the mother of the various tribal/nature deities) have different roles. If this needs to go any farther, we can start a different thread. Link to comment
volgadon
Heaven and Earth were regarded as deities in the ANE, David has written about that. Link to comment

Most often I think she pops up in mythologies where the primordial Father God is also nature, though perhaps a different aspect like Sky. I don't see Yahweh and El as being that type of Father God so they would not have a female counterpart similar to Gaia. Here is a list of Canaanite gods for you to check as well: http://en.wikipedia....naanite_deitiesLooks like Kishar may be what you are looking for: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KisharAlso go down to "in various cultures" for some candidates http://en.wikipedia....h_mother#Celtic Link to comment
