Cold Steel Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 My brother (a staunch member of the church) lives in Cedar City, Utah, and has been scaring me with some of his beliefs. He believes in the New World Order, chemtrails, the Illuminati, and the widespread practice of satanism by police, judges and politicians. This is apparently a mindset, not only in the church, but throughout the country in the Internet communities. People like Paul Drockton (a non-Mormon) has an Internet audio show and is known for seeing the dark hand of the Illuminati in all things:Yes, there were attempts on my life in Indiana. Not much was different there than what I had experienced in Ohio.I then took a higher paying Manager's job in Utah, thinking that, maybe things would get better if I settled my family among real Mormons. Little did I know that the Illuminati were just as firmly entrenched among the Mormons there as they were anywhere else. I lived in Catholic communities, and they were there. I lived in Protestant communities, and they were there. I have lived in Mormon communities and they were there. I soon realized that I was at war with an organization that was more highly skilled than anything I had ever imagined. Both national and international in scope. Now my brother doesn't believe we have any general authorities who are members of this sinister network, but he does believe bishops and stake presidents are, and that these Satan worshipers sacrifice thousands of people each year. And he believes the lack of evidence for all this is proof that the bad guys have control of the media! My brother's not the only one. There seems to be a lot of people who subscribe to this type of thinking, but I wonder if the church is aware of how pervasive it is. I also wonder if the church has addressed it in any way. I'm not entirely new to the conspiracy/UFO/NWO/Illuminai stuff, but when it gets this dark, something needs to be done. On the phone tonight I suggested to my brother that he might want to see someone (like a therapist), but I should have known that most of them are probably paid informants for the NWO. Does anyone have similar problems and, if so, how are you handling it?.
TAO Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 Ask your brother why he should worry about who is an 'Illuminati', and who isn't, when we could focus on trusting Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost instead, as well as the Prophet and Apostles. To be honest, if you know that you are trusting God with all your heart, there isn't a reason to fear - to counter fear, you draw close to God, and trust in him.In other words, these 'Illuminati' will not stop the gospel from going forth, though (from your brother's POV) they may be a hassle, a trust in God will let you do all things he asks you to do.Yah... what are Illuminati anyways... bad spirits... what does he think they are, and how does he think they affect us?

Does anyone have similar problems and, if so, how are you handling it?.Not sure if this would help you understand the conspiracy theories. I happened to watch an on-demand show on Comcast called Brad Meltzer's Decoded. An episode that talks about the conspiracy theory behind the Statue of Liberty and the Illuminati. Supposedly, as the theory goes, the Illuminati infiltrated the ancient Masonic order and created it what it is today, and that many of the worlds conspiracy theories are sub-roots of the Illuminati's work in bringing about their One World Government. Best-selling author Brad Meltzer and his team thought they knew what the Statue of Liberty stood for. But now they learn that America's most powerful icon of freedom might actually be loaded with secret symbols put there by a sinister group bent on world domination. They investigate claims that the Illuminati, a secret European society loosely affiliated with the freemasons, turned every inch of the statue into a coded message, from the torch Liberty holds high, to the rays emanating from the crown, even to the precise height of the statue itself. Things get even stranger when a highly regarded numerologist shows the team why he believes the statue is really a monument to the all-powerful number 7. As they evaluate these unsettling claims, Brad and the team are forced to reconsider whether one of America's most enduring symbols is really who she appears to be. What is interesting about this episode, the group that goes around to find evidence of these clues, is that one of the guys they interview is actually LDS and you can see him open up his Large Print Quad http://www.youtube.c...&has_verified=1 and a freemason Edited January 22, 2011 by SeattleGhostWriter
Deborah Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 I have a son who believes a lot of these conspiracy theories but at least he realizes there is nothing you can do except follow the prophet and do as he has asked. I have a nephew on the other hand who is way into this stuff and preaches it, sometimes even at church. The question I always ask my nephew when he starts going on on and on about these things is even if this is all true what is it you think anyone can do about it. Nothing, but people should know. I ask why, if we are doing what we are supposed to be doing none of it should matter. A lot of these people won't vote or support any political candidate because they think they are all part of the conspiracy and every single attempted bombing is another "Manchurian Candidate" and politicians are doing what they are doing to get us all willing to submit to extraordinary security measures and willingly give up more of our freedom in the name of security. I think that politicians take advantage of situations but I hardly think most of them are smart enough or united enough to do everything as part of a world-wide conspiracy.
Garden Girl Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 Sometimes during one of my sleepless nights, I'll turn the radio on and listen to "Coast to Coast"... Wow! You should hear some of the guests/phone calls... particularly when Steven Quayle(?) is on... or Richard Hoagland and his belief in past civilizations on the moon (that's why we've not gone back in so many years because earlier landings found evidence, etc etc and the gov't doesn't want us to know). So, Cold Steel, I hope you can keep your brother from going off the deep end with this, but there's not much you can do... and I have no suggestions except to keep him in your prayers and try to present to him a more reasoned voice. Good luck. GG

Does anyone have similar problems and, if so, how are you handling it? Many people have slight peculiarities (in England they refer to them as eccentricities) or irrational behaviors which we find cute or endearing. Yet they seem to live more or less successfully despite them. There are people close to me who have a whole range of odd beliefs, from the Birthers who believe that President Obama was not born in the United States, to those who obsess about dietary matters. No real cause for alarm. When, however, these beliefs interfere with normal living patterns in a way which is financially or physically destructive or self-destructive, it is time to begin attending meetings of your local chapter of NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness), and take your loved one with you if it seems O.K. There you can find others who also have loved ones who have gone off the deep end may even be certifiable as schizophrenic (bipolar) or clinically depressed. Excellent advice is readily available. Go to www.nami.org, or for chapters in Utah go to www.namiut.org .Beyond that, in severe cases, your local bishop has access to resources (which he can pay for from fast offering funds if need be) to provide good outpatient therapy in a confidential way.
Mansquatch Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 New World Order - That one is 100% real, provable and scriptural. There is no "theory" on that one.Chemtrails - Some contrails are different but I don't see it as something to get worked up about.Illuminati - Was a real organization and may still exist in some form, but until you can prove it don't bother with it.Widespread Satanism - That does seem a bit paranoid. When people have a set of facts and skip a step or two to draw a conclusion, that is when big trouble follows. Take birthers for example, the president hasn't shown a long-form birth certificate, that much is true, but to jump ahead and say that it means he was born in Kenya is taking one fact and skipping steps to make a declaration. Anti-mormons do stuff like this all the time. You should tell your brother to lay out cases on many things step by step and look for holes. If he has any sense he will do it and see the problems.Ask your brother why he should worry about who is an 'Illuminati', and who isn't, when we could focus on trusting Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost instead, as well as the Prophet and Apostles. The question I always ask my nephew when he starts going on on and on about these things is even if this is all true what is it you think anyone can do about it. Nothing, but people should know. I ask why, if we are doing what we are supposed to be doing none of it should matter. We have been commanded to know about people who are seeking power and gain and seeking to control the whole world. Satan can take the desire to follow that command and turn someone into a paranoid and/or accusatory person. While following the command to know who is plotting on you, one must always be wary to be not deceived and believe every crazy theory that comes their way, like the Coast to Coast crowd.Ether 8:24Wherefore, the Lord commandeth you, when ye shall see these things come among you that ye shall awake to a sense of your awful situation, because of this asecret combination which shall be among you; or wo be unto it, because of the blood of them who have been slain; for they cry from the dust for vengeance upon it, and also upon those who built it up.
erichard Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 My brother (a staunch member of the church) lives in Cedar City, Utah, and has been scaring me with some of his beliefs. ...Tell you brother that you are aware of conspiracy far greater than anything he has ever mentioned. It has deep roots and is close to coming out in the full open.It is hopeless to fight against it, it is set to gain control of the entire world most likely in our lifetime.Get him really interested. Then tell him the truth: this conspiracy is Zion and its laws.No need to worry about the other conspiracies, your brother should worry about this one. The illuminati, if they exist, should worry about this one. Everyone should worry about this one.Richard
Cold Steel Posted January 23, 2011 Author Posted January 23, 2011 Moroni warned us of conspiracies, and one in particular, and that "whoso buildeth it up seeketh to overthrow the freedom of all lands, nations and peoples." And I believe that Glenn Beck is pretty right on when it comes to those who are trying to change our form of government. But there's very little we can do about it. Moroni indicated that if we can't do something to bring it down, that the Lord would. But my brother goes far beyond what anyone can know. Do I really believe that many of our media, judges, politicians and police are Satan-worshiping fiends who are practicing human sacrifice? No. I think our society is wicked enough to bring down condemnation without Satan-worship by so many. I have a friend with the FAA who's volunteered to let my brother inspect a commercial aircraft to convince him that chemtrails simply can't be a government conspiracy. The metal content put out by the so-called chemtrails would tear up the engines if put into the jet fuel. And there are no tanks or nozzles where chemicals could be released; plus, ground crews and pilots would have to all be in on it. It would require both fuel tanks and chemical tanks on the ground and it could not go unnoticed. As cynical as I am, I can't buy in to the 911 conspiracy thing, either. My brother's primary problem is that he has gotten so into this conspiracy stuff that he studies little else. He spends all day reading and and pontificating about it and his kids just kind of thinks he's nuts.To me, it's extreme. And to cite the lack of evidence on this as the Illuminati's ability to keep it all under wraps is...well...weird.
Deborah Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 ....plus, ground crews and pilots would have to all be in on it.This to me is why these conspiracy theories are so out of whack. There are just too many people who would have to go along with it and someone is bound to talk. We can't even keep top secret stuff in the government secret anymore.
sinclair Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 I came accross your post and recalled a story my uncle - from Cedar City - told me recently. He was driving down the 15 when a car passing him had a license plate: DVL 666. He was so startled he took the next exit and locked the car doors in a panic. He told me it backed up what he had been aware of; devil worshippers are alive and well in Cedar City. His story backed up what I've always suspected - He's Wierd. My brother (a staunch member of the church) lives in Cedar City, Utah, and has been scaring me with some of his beliefs. MorningStar Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 But the therapists are one of them! Seriously, I am very sorry to hear about your brother's frame of mind and hope he'll seek help, but it's very hard to convince paranoid people to do that when they think everyone is out to get them. And my brother's a cop. I went on a ride along with him, but he didn't worship Satan or sacrifice anyone. He did bust some shoplifters, pulled over some people for speeding, checked expired tabs, chased down a drunk driver in the area, and ate some Vietnamese food for dinner. Perhaps the Illuminati lures you in with a chemical they put in the bubble tea? 1
