I'm not even entirely sure why. The inclusion of the Arabic Article of Faith and C.S. Lewis did it for me. Thanks.I think I will link to both it and your most recent (and incredibly thoughtful) article in my email responses to questions from my interfaith dialogue in December. Link to comment

Mortal Man
For what it's worth: Today's iteration of my weekly newspaper column:http://www.mormontim...storical-eventsNot a bad article, until we hit this textbook example of question-begging,Mormonism declares that the original Christian church fell into apostasy. What is the best evidence for that claim? The fact that there was a restoration. and circular logic,The historical evidence for an apostasy is, in my judgment, excellent. But God's restoration of the church and the gospel proves it. Link to comment

It will be a good exercise.Oh, I get it! You're talking about The Sealed Plates!Nemelka declares that the original Mormon church fell into apostasy. What is the best evidence for that claim? The fact that there was a restoration of the sealed portion. The historical evidence that revelations ceased with the martyrdom of JS is, in my judgment, excellent. But Joseph's restoration of the 116 pages and the sealed portion proves it.Bill! Why didn't you tell me?This part has me especially excited. The Lord promised that one day the plates would be given back to mortal man... Link to comment

Libs
Mormonism does rely on historical events, because there is good (excellent?) evidence for an apostasy. And, the Restoration seals it (makes it even moreso, because it is an historical event, as well..for believers, anyway)...is the point of the article, I think? I liked the beginning, about how Mormonism solves a lot of the problems. That was one of the things that, originally, attracted me to it. Everything just seemed to make so much more sense, within the context of Mormonism, than in mainstream (to my eyes and way of thinking back then). Some things still do make more sense, but there are also things that don't make sense, to me, like the whole progression of gods and how that happens, and that the universe is eternal (which I don't think it is, to the best of my understanding), not physically, anyway.I don't know. I find problems with most religious systems. I have stopped leaning on others for understanding and try harder to have a more direct relationship with God.I do enjoy reading about various viewpoints, though. Link to comment
Libs
Actually, in rereading, the point in that article has to do with revelation. That is the core of Christianity and it is ongoing. Revelation is alive and current. Creeds are philosophical conclusions drawn by man...and a sort of "box" that you probably can't put God in. Hmmm...yes. Interesting. There is a lot more in that article than I initially perceived. http://www.mormontimes.com/article/19759/Mormonism-relies-on-historical-events Link to comment
