David T
I'm in the Pearl of Great Price lectures. Enjoying them, and finding much that are insightful, but I do notice some definite flaws in his methodology that certainly cloud his interpretation on several issues. For example, he insists on using the Lectures on Faith as equal-authority scripture that is forced be compatible with everything else, even though (while probably mainly authored by Rigdon) it expresses an earlier understanding of the Godhead than was later understood and taught by Joseph. I love the Lectures, and feel there is some definite true principles in there. However, I do also feel that there is doctrine contained in there which has been superseded by greater light and knowledge.Apart from the topics mentioned in my earlier above posts, I also think he's at his strongest when he's teaching concerning the Holy Order, and our relationship with Christ. There's some powerful concepts in there, that are very applicable in our lives.Where he begins to lose me is in his detailed analyses and proof-text conclusions from Old Testament prophecy (especially the Isaiah material), and judgments on historical matters. He's very convinced of the idea that Adam was born into the world through the process of divine physical procreation by God the Father, and accordingly has some sharp and severe condemnations of those who believe in the theory of evolution. He also gets quite a bit convoluted when he attempts to explain the different 'voices' being used when God is presented as addressing individuals in the first person in the early revelations. He really lost me when he began to posit that 'Mine Only Begotten' is a title that the Son applies to the Father!Again, there are some very profound truths that I believe he expounds on (and I think this is by far the majority of his lectures), but at times it seems he gets a little too wrapped up in interpreting the framework of the the story that it begins to detract from the practical doctrine. rockslider
...It sounds like you have applied a fairly critical ear. With only a few questionable concepts out of the what 70+ hours of live recordings, where he basically shot from the hip with a hand full of notes. You've given a pretty positive review here.I'm a bit surprised he let slip the "'Mine Only Begotten' is a title that the Son applies to the Father!". This comment, refers to an even more controversial concept of Adam God than simply Adam God. It implies that no father would send his son to such a fate required for his work Link to comment

David T
WOAH.So I was running an errand, listening to the lecture on the Atonement. Things are going okay, and then, he goes and says it:"Mary was pure white. Wasn't swarthy like other Israelites. That comes from an infusion of Hittite blood. Jesus had blonde hair and blue eyes. That's the sign of pure Abrahamic."I literally yelled out, "WOAH!" right there in the car. I think I woke up my baby.Lost some major points with me right there. Link to comment
