Olavarria
On the Lost Book of Abraham thread, and else where, I have heard much talk about Joseph the Prophet as being Joseph the Kabbalist. Frankly, if he did study kabbalah I wouldnt find this in the least bit offensive. Having lived a couple of years in the west side of LA, ive grown to have a great appreciation for judaism. What I want to know is this? What evidence is their that Joseph Smith studied kabbalah? Those who believed he did, make your arguments. Who tought it to him? Those who believe he didnt make your arguments.Until then,Shalom Link to comment

Bill Hamblin
The two main published sources arguing for Joseph Smithâ??s knowledge of Kabbalism are:Lance S. Owens Joseph Smith and Kabbalah: The Occult Connectionhttp://www.gnosis.org/jskabb1.htmandD. Michael Quinn, Early Mormonism and the Magic World View, 2nd ed. (Signature, 1998), 296-306I respond to these claims in http://farms.byu.edu/display.php?table=review&id=229(contra Owens), andhttp://farms.byu.edu/display.php?table=review&id=364(contra Quinn)I am unaware of any further published defenses of the theory that engage my critiques. Olavarria
Thank you Bill. It seems that Joseph the Prophet cannot be properly called Yosef Rabbeinu. Alas, it seems like we will never see a member of the Seventy at the next Chabad telethon. Then again Rabbi Shumely Boteach did have a show on KSL, which I believe is owned by Bonneville Communication, which I believe is owned by the Church. HMMMMMM It seems like you didnt do your research Link to comment
