It certainly looks like a well organised, informative event. Hope to be able to catch up on what I can from here in the UK

Am I correct in detecting a theme that prioritizes getting women into Youtube Apologetics? In whatever way they feel they can, cause three are directed towards women specifically; The role of women in defending the Church, female equality in the Church, Lived experience of Mormon women. Then a lot of tools to get them (or anyone) to succeed online; live podcasts, motivational presentations, balancing facts and kindness, faith crisis, and if they are young.

Female equality in the Church

Hopefully this will NOT lead to re-hashing the 70's ERA (Equal Rights Amendment to the U.S. Constitution) that would have led to grievous distortions of society in general and the nuclear family in particular. Hopefully the emphasis will be on the complementary benefits and the strong reinforcements that does occur between the man and the woman. Hopefully the discussions will NOT drift into wokist insistence on all things "equitable" - - - here is a chatGPT perspective:

Quote
what is the woke definition of "equity"
ChatGPT said:

The "woke" definition of equity often refers to fairness of outcomes rather than just fairness of opportunity. In social justice or progressive contexts, "equity" means actively working to correct systemic disadvantages and imbalances caused by historical or structural discrimination. This may include treating people differently to ensure they ultimately have equal outcomes or access to benefits, especially across lines like race, gender, or socioeconomic status.

Summary:

  • Equality (traditional liberal view): everyone gets the same resources or opportunities.

  • Equity (woke/progressive view): people get resources based on their needs or disadvantages so they can reach equal outcomes.

Example:

In education:

  • Equality: Every student gets the same textbook.

  • Equity: Some students may get tutoring, extra support, or different tools, depending on their background or needs.

Critics argue this approach may result in favoritism or undermine meritocracy. Supporters say it's necessary to address longstanding systemic barriers.

Hi Calm:

Your message box is full.

I need to message Robert Messick, the new Book of Mormon editions guy.  I cannot recall his handle.  Can you help?

Bob

I don’t know him (unless you meant the poster here who collects BoM whose alias I can’t remember at the moment), but I am guessing this might work:

https://streaming.bookofmormonevidence.org/actor/robert-messick/

added:  I just checked FAIR and he wrote us once.  If you want me to contact him for permission to give you his email, I will need to check first with FAIR people that’s okay, but will be happy to do so if alright.

and added again:  I have painfully*** deleted a few conversations, so you should be able to PMme again.

***with my memory so poor, I tend to forget them if I delete them and it’s hard to choose which ones it’s okay to lose.

Thanks Calm,

I may just have to prevail upon you to get permission, if all else fails.

On messages here, I just save a bunch of them on a document which I save for future reference.

That’s smart…

Bug me if you don’t hear back from someone in a few days.  FAIR decision makers are always preoccupied and busy in the two weeks before a conference.  I may have to ask a couple of times.  :)

Cardon Ellis might be a yahoo but he's a faithful yahoo. He is strongly endorsing the FAIR conference.

No tickets sold at the door this year.

Tonight and tomorrow are the last times to get tickets.  Please order tonight if possible (I got the impression our helper is heavily booked already for tomorrow, so it would make her life easier; she is someone who deserves help when she needs it :) ).

Don’t worry though… Streaming is possible if unable to attend in person

Quite possibly.  It has been an ongoing effort of FAIR to involve more women as previously they haven’t been as numerous as men, while in my experience probably run the same these days with struggling….though over my years with FAIR a number of women have been highly influential, for example Juliann who posts here who was highly involved in the founding of FAIR.

I'm really interested in this one, too late for the in person but there's streaming, yay!

Thanks for reminding me, meant to update the thread one more time.  Streaming ticket link is now first thing in the thread.

Also here for those who use the ‘new posts only’ option:

https://fairlatterdaysaints.org/store/product/august-2025-fair-conference-streaming/

For those wanting to discuss the conference talks, please start new threads on individual topics so as easier to keep track of.  I will be busy during this time most likely with family stuff, so feel free to begin without me.  I might not get anything going until September anyway, seeing how August is usually about enduring the heat (which I can’t figure out why since we use our AC generously and I have very short exposures to the outdoors).
