  1. Satan is the adversary, he is not just a wayward son of God. Notwithstanding the new TV series that bears his name, he is not a being that can be reformed. We have been told by prophets of God that God's love is not unconditional. There are conditions to His grace, we must exercise faith and repentance. God cannot look upon sin with the least degree of allowance, nevertheless he that repents and does the commandments of the Lord shall be forgiven. Our agency is the key to this love of God. Lucifer was a son of the morning, suggesting an early spirit son of God and one in authority, an angel in the presence of God who betrayed the love of God by his rebellion and became perdition which means hopelessly lost...and yes the heavens wept over him. But he was cast down and became the devil that old serpent, that monster who's role is to deceive men and destroy however he will. His sin was so great that he was not allowed to obtain a body of flesh and bones and thus he cannot receive a kingdom of glory, he can only experience the flesh by stealing one temporarily. He is the prince of darkness who cannot abide the light of truth because he is a liar and the father of lies. You cannot make a deal with him, you cannot make peace with him you cannot give him the benefit of the doubt and you also cannot love God and the devil at the same time. So really the question of whether God still loves him is a moot point. He cannot be saved therefore he cannot partake of the love of God. By his own agency he has cut himself off from the love of God and the glory of God. So whether God "loves him" is irrelevant to us. He is no longer our brother, he is our enemy our accuser, our tormentor. The beginning of destruction of everyone who apostatizes in the scriptures is that they "loved Satan more than they loved God." So why should God love him?

  2. I am a descendent of the tribe of Joseph through Ephraim does that make me royalty? But seriously I have met a few people who loved to name drop but I don't think it is a peculiar trait to Mormons in general. As for certain families being blessed with great responsibilities I have no doubt...reference father Abraham, also Moses and Aaron. But the blessings of these lineages comes with a price of responsibility. Through your seed all the generations of the earth will be blessed. So in a way we as Saints are a royal generation and a chosen priesthood but that should not give us any pride or distinction above our non Israelite brethren. Because where much is given much is required, if we do not live up to our privileges we are liable to receive greater condemnation.

  3. As far as I am concerned BSA is not relevant to the Church and we do not need it as much as it needs us. I will not be supporting it financially and if my son chooses not to be in scouts I will not force him. The only worth of scouts to me why I was growing up is the time I spent with my Dad. I could have done that without scouting and I do not see it as part of the Church. Perhaps the Church could come up with a variarion called Pioneer scouts! But whatever the leadership of the Church decides I will abide by it.

  4. Some people think that God does not guide his church but narrow minded men teach their own opinions. This was the reason the fullness of the Gospel had to be restored. Many love to proclaim that the prophet is not infallible yet they fail to recognize their own personal fallibility. We either accept the restoration or we do not. Using the 1978 revelation as an argument for Same Sex Marrige is erroneous because the ban on ordaining blacks to the priesthood was not in response to sin on the part of our black brethren. It was not bigotry, it was scripturally based but we do not know the reason for the curse, only there was one. In the case of SSM it is in itself sin, the entire concept is based on justification of a sinful act. That is why it will NEVER change. The linage of the Egyptians was cursed as pertaining to the priesthood, but the curse was not to be forever, just as the Gospel not going to the gentiles would not be forever. This SSM thing is a corruption of real marriage, the actions of homosexuals are sin, that will never change. So comparing it to the lifting of the priesthood ban is like comparing apples and oranges. It is based on a desperate hope that God will someday condone sin. He will not, nevertheless he that repents and does the commandments of the Lord will be forgiven.

  5. Yes the Prophet Joseph Smith was indeed a martyr! He was killed not for the destruction of a press, that was just the legal pretext to get him into the hands of his enemies. He was killed for the same reason that Christ was put to death for religious and political reasons, but mostly because he testified of the truth and helped overthrow the kingdom of the devil. For 2000 years Satan had ruled his kingdom of darkness now the dawning of a new despensation was at hand and his blood sealed his testimony and he is one of the blessed martyrs for the testimony of Jesus Christ. So I say along with others as that great song states: Praise to the man who communed with Jehovah, Jesus anointed that Prophet and seer!

  6. We all feel inadequate because quite frankly we all are that is what the atonement of Christ is all about. We can feel our worth by pressing forward in faith and enduring the following scripture comes to mind: Alma 26:27

Sorry I could not copy and paste it for some reason but I am sure you can read it yourself. The gist is that as we have patience in our afflictions the Lord can comfort us through His spirit. Hope this helps.

  7. Of course they existed historically unless you believe Joseph Smith is a liar. Not only does he state that he translated the record on the plates but he also states he met in person, Moroni, Nephi and others! So I say unequivocally that if you believe Joseph is a true prophet of God and that God Himself verified that the record is true then you must accept its historic authenticity. There is no middle ground no matter how you try to justify it this new age mormonism is not correct.

  8. Why would anyone think that anything could be true and false at the same time? Do you think God can lie? Because the reason the Book of Mormon was given was not so scientists or scholars or the learned could verify His words or that it could be or should be proven by undeniable facts. The reason it was given to us was so faith could increase in the earth and that men would learn how to receive revelations. If someone has this shades of gray idea of Gospel truth then you can treat the Gospel as some sort of buffet where you can accept a teaching or reject it and it really does not matter. This goes totally counter to common sense and the teachings of the scriptures. (Jacob 4:13) "...for the spirit speaketh the truth and lieth not. Wherefore, it speaketh of things as they really are, and of things as they really will be..."

  9. I believe it well happen in my lifetime. If I live as old as my father who is now 95 I believe I will see the coming of the Lord in the flesh. I am still counting on the date I speculated on a few years ago 2020 but it could be longer but not 100 years longer! Either way we should watch and be ready.

  10. It has happened to me once, when I went into a thread about divorce. Not sure where it is from. I am on a Foxfire browser, do not know if that has any effect. Not sure how to block popups with this new browser.

  11. Most LDS teachings can be understood in ways consistent with the geologic evidence and an understanding that God works through a higher understanding of natural laws. We only wind up looking like cranks when we become science deniers.

So are you resorting to ad hominem attacks? I do not consider myself a crank or an science denier... But to your point, in what way is the literal resurrection consistent with geologic evidence? Or perhaps walking on water? Why could the creation not be God working through a higher understanding of natural laws? Which laws are we referring to? Telestial? Terrestrial? or Celestial? To me these laws are just as real as "natural laws" and we cannot deny miracles and remain true to our faith in the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ. To me science is a tool that can be used with wisdom, but it is not the fount of all knowledge and wisdom. God has that distinction and some things can only be discovered or understood through revelation. I do not believe man is the measure of all things, I do not believe that we mortals are omniscient but I know God is. I trust not in the arm of flesh, but I try to trust in the Lord and His Gospel. Therefore any doctrine or philosophy or teaching that does not square with the revelations of God to His servants I reject out of hand. I believe that the theory of organic evolution that teaches that there was death from the beginning of the creation and denies that Adam was the first man and that the fall did not bring death into the world, is  a false theory of men and to me is useless and rather unimportant to me.

  12. Yeah, I understand your theory, but there doesn't seem to be much geologic evidence to support it.

Your point? The OP aske about our belief of the theory of LDS evolution. Nowhere did it ask for any geologic evidence, I am not a geologist or a scientist, but I do have faith in the principles of the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ, I believe in the atonement and the fall and the creation. That is the benchmark of how I determine what I think reguarding the theory of evolution. I am sure my opinions do not make supporters of Mr. Darwin proud, in fact I suppose most intellectuals and most on this board look down their nose at this ignorant unsophisticated fool and rather point their mocking fingers at my most unenlightened primitive thinking. But that is their opinion, which they are entitiled to as I am mine.

  13. And if all men were angels we wouldn't need government. Very fine concept, which is basically meaningless in the real world. Marriage relationships can and do crack under stress, occasionally religion can provide the fatal stress.

So you think the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ is basically meaningless in the real world? You cannot lay the sins of men and their own lack of love at the door of the Lord's true Church. I have never seen a stress that was caused by the true Church if both parties really love the Lord and each other. Now if one chooses to follow the truth and the other apostatizes from than truth then stress will result, but is the stress caused by the Church or the apostasy of the disaffected party? Sort of like saying Satan's being cast out of heaven was God's fault!

  14. Actually I look forward to the day when Christ shall come and reign personally upon the earth and when the godless leftist Anti-Christ BEAST, the great whore, which even now is ripening for destruction will fall down and be consumed in devouring fire. The establishment of the world theocracy in which God will be the head, is what I hope and pray for, the only absolute power that I will ever trust. The Kingdom of God or nothing!

  15. "It is hard to get the people to believe that God is a scientific character, that He lives by science or strict law, that by this He is, and by law he was made what He is; and will remain to all eternity because of His faithful adherence to law. It is a most difficult thing to make the people believe that every art and science and all wisdom comes from Him, and that He is their Author.”

    -- Brigham Young, November 13, 1870

I do not believe BY had the Theory of Organic Evolution in mind when he said God was the author of science and art... I do not think every theory of science is inspired of God. Some nodoubt is, but not all. Besides, isn't this Brigham's "opinion"?

  16. God must have a sense of humor. He magically transported their poop.along with those dinosaur bones.

I find it interesting that you must resort to such a juvenile statement to try to disprove my opinion. However why do you suppose God would have to "magically transport" anything? I believe this world was composed of matter left over from other worlds, the supposed dinosaur "poop" was not organically intact was it? I mean it was fossilized? So who can say when the creatures did their business. How does this prove your point?

  17. I have always wondered about the former earth theory, which I eventually rejected. We are taught that only people having to do with this planet deal with this planet as Spirits and Angels, etc. Although Christ was the Savior of more than just this planet. We are further taught that the destiny of this planet is to become a Celestial Kingdom. Nothing is said about this planet ever becoming less than a Celestial Kingdom once it is celestialized. So were these former earths aborted creations?

We really do not know. God told Moses He would only give him an account of this earth. So we are left to wonder what happened on these other earths. I find it much easier to believe in the speculation of God creating other worlds to use those materials to complete this earth rather than to think that God had to wait billions of years for the human race to evolve from pond scum so he could put a spirit into a cousin of the apes and call him Adam. You may accept the theories of men, but I will accept the opinions of prophets and apostles. Here is the quote from Moses:

     (Moses 1:29-35)

And he beheld many lands; and each land was called  earth, and there were inhabitants on the face thereof.

And it came to pass that Moses called upon God, saying: Tell me, I pray thee, why these things are so, and by what thou madest them?

And behold, the glory of the Lord was upon Moses, so that Moses stood in the presence of God, and talked with him face to face. And the Lord God said unto Moses: For mine own purpose have I made these things. Here is wisdom and it remaineth in me.

And by the word of my power, have I created them, which is mine Only Begotten Son, who is full of grace and truth.

And worlds without number have I created; and I also created them for mine own purpose; and by the Son I created them, which is mine Only Begotten. And the first man of all men have I called Adam, which is many.

But only an account of this earth, and the inhabitants thereof, give I unto you. For behold, there are many worlds that have passed away by the word of my power. And there are many that now stand, and innumerable are they unto man; but all things are numbered unto me, for they are mine and I know them.

I also find it interesting that the written word and recorded civilization itself begins about 6,000 years ago. Why is this? If we "evolved" would it not have come gradually? In any event I find it more incredible to believe in Mr Darwin's worldview than that revealed in the scriptures. For me it really comes down to one thing, no death before the fall of Adam and that Adam and Eve were not mythical beings but real flesh and blood people. As for the story being figurative, it is only figurative in the sense that we all experience our own personal fall when sin conceives in our hearts as we grow up.

If there was indeed death before the fall (as pertains to this earth) then how could the atonement change the effects of a natural created state? By what law does death enter existence? I believe that the three pillars of eternity are the creation, the fall and the atonement and these three are interdependent.

There are a lot of things in our religion that is declared "impossible" from so-called scientific thought. The resurrection itself is not "scientific" yet I know it is true. a global flood, the parting the Red Sea, surviving a fiery furnace, or bringing fire down from heaven, the turning water into wine, feeding the 5,000 with 7 loaves and 3 fishes, walking on water, stilling the storm, and healing of the sick are all declared impossible by "science" does that mean I deny these things? No, just because I do not understand how these miracles are done does not warrant my rejection of them as supersition or myth.

So until the Prophet of the Lord receives a revelation stating that Mr Darwin is correct in his assumptions and that death has always existed on this earth, I will use my own flawed "theory" of the creation of man. You are at liberty to disagree, but please refrain from mocking and trying to make me feel foolish because I do not subscrirbe to the wisdom of the world.

  18. Marriage in its ideal state is a wonderful thing.  But I think there is no perfect marriage.  In its quest for perfect marriages, I believe the LDS Church sets unrealistic expectations for both spouses.  As a result, one or both spouses are likely to feel robbed when their marriage does not fit the blissful vision of happiness the Church raised them to expect.  While this is by no means the only factor leading to LDS divorces, can't we at least agree that setting unrealistic expectations is at least partly to blame?

NO, never. I believe if both parties live the Gospel of Jesus Christ that there is no excuse for divorce. Because if we live the teachings of the Church we will love our spouses as ourselves and their happiness will be the foremost thing in our minds. Satan is the main instigator of divorce and it is usually selfishness on the part of one or both partners that is the leading cause.

  19. So you believe God the Father had literal sex with Mary.  That his genes were literally passed on to Jesus?  Really?

I believe that God the Father is the LITERAL Father of Jesus Christ in the flesh. Really. His genes were literally passed on to Jesus! He inherited his ability to overcome death from His Father. That is why we call Him the Son of God. (I also believe that discussion of the sex life of God is not only blasphemous but I think a board violation.)

  20. Ironically I agree with Cinepro, I believe the theory of evolution is incompatible with the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ. I am not convinced that Darwin was correct in his conclusions. I do believe in the Joseph Fielding Smith-Bruce R McConkie model of creation. I believe that this earth was created of existant materials, some consisting of former earths that had the purpose of making combinations of oil and coal reserves for this earth. I believe that the fossils were enbedded in these materials and that these were not from this earth. In fact I believe all life was transplanted from Celestial realms.  I believe that this earth was organized in a terrestrial state, which consisted of no death, no sickness, no suffering, and no sin. The Garden condition covered this earth and the fall brought death, both physical and spiritual upon all things. I believe we now live in a telestial state and that it is manifestly impossible to determine from what is found on this telestial sphere how the creation was done in that terrestrial world. I believe this earth at Christ's return will be renewed and recieve it's paradisical glory (Terrestrial) and after this 1000 year period that this earth will be lifted to a Celestial glory. I believe that this mortal earth (after the fall) has seen 6,000 years of temporal existance as stated in D&C 77:6 and that the Millenium will finish the 7,000 years. I do not believe it necessary to square the revelations of God with the theories of science, rather I measure the theories of science with the revelations and I believe revelation trumps science every time.

  21. Considering all the Prophets who have been imprisoned, how could you think that the Lord wouldn't allow His prophets to be treated like this?

Heck, Christ was arrested and crucified. And He was God's Son!

Actually I did note that it would be possible if it was part of his mission (note my references to Paul, Peter, and Joseph Smith), but I do not think it necessary to further the work of the Lord now. Remember it is not the work of the Lord that is frustrated but the work of men. So I am not concerned about it.

  22. On the "board not to be named" they support this as a means to disprove Mormonism. Note how well earthly courts worked out for Jesus...not even an appeal.

This actually reminded me of a book I saw several years ago (while on my Mission) I think it was called "Day of Defence" or something like that, in which all the Anti-Mormon objections were presented in the form of a court case in which all of these objections to Mormonism were explained overturned! It was in a comic book format somewhat like Chick publicaitons. It was at times helpful to understand some of the common Anti- objections if not that helpful at complete answers but it was entertaining. Not sure if it is still in print, I saw it around 1980... This was the first apologetic work I ever saw, even if it probably could not be said it was "scholarly" it still had some good info, It was structured as a mock court case that had many of the same allegations that the Phillips character has in his case.

  23. Nothing worse than an Atheist Apostate! One of his points is also against the book of Genesis! Why not bring in the Church of England or the Catholic Church into the complaint? When I first saw the headline I wondered what could they be claiming? That President Monson made off with the Tithing funds?! Then reading the article I realized it was just another bitter apostate that has nothing better to do with his life than to oppose the Kingdom of God and waste the time of the British Courts with not only a frivolous lawsuit but also to put before the court something that they could not possibly rule on (elements of faith). Oh and as reported in the USA Today, almost at the end of the story I spotted the political angle (the reason the US media even carries this non-story) it tells about some book written by Phillips, that does a hatchett job on Mitt Romney! Are they afraid he will try to make a comeback in 2016? But actually the whole thing is rather laughable, sort of reminds me of the first lawsuit filed against the prophet Joseph for "being a disorderly person and preaching the Book of Mormon"! If he is serious about this it is also a rather pathetic attempt. I will make predictions of my own, President Monson will never stand trial for these baseless charges (I respect the British legal system more than that) and the UK would never try to extradite him even if the US government were foolish enough to offer it! And even if both governments had completely lost their marbles and did... there is one factor that the apostates and Anti-Mormon minions would never count on... that God would not allow His prophet to be treated in this way, unless like Paul and Peter and Joseph Smith he had a mission to perform to further the work of the Lord. Of one thing I am sure, even if President Monson does not have to answer for charges at the Old Baily, Mr Phillips will have to answer for his apostasy and false witness to a much higher tribunal...
