  1. An update.....now have 85 Firesides in 7 states....  Since Covid, several Firesides have been cancelled, so I have done them by Zoom, including another 2 states and a foreign country. I have a few other scheduled now, including Liberty, Missouri and NYC.   Can't wait until I can do them live again.  Add to that the Magazine article and book and this has been such an incredible journey.

  2. I know it was highlighted this man was a HP....but the issue is not his Church, there are bad people in every church, profession, city, state, country.  The issue is this person is like so many nowadays of both sexes: they have issues.  They have problems.  Perhaps it was always this way, or maybe the society we now live in breeds these issues.  Regardless, his actions have hurt so many lives.

Well, you are probably quite an anomaly it appears then. You've managed to come from one point to the other or full circle. I wonder why it's so difficult for so many to do what you've done. I'd love to see one of your firesides!

PM me where you live and I will tell you if I have any scheduled near you

  4. Has been wild.  I have done 8 Firesides in Utah and Texas and set for 15 more so far in Utah, Colorado, and California.  I have many more requests from all over the world.  The Lord has brought me a long way from anti-Mormon days.

Well, if someone refuses to admit the obvious facts, does that change the facts into mere opinion?

JFS had control over his great uncle's journal, the 1832 first vision account was removed and then put back only when it was clear the information would be released. It shows intent to withhold purposefully this information from the public. Plus it was "withheld" all along in the first presidency vault, again to make sure the public did not see it.

It is still your opinion.  Refusing to admit a fact you think they should admit is not wrong.  It is a choice that may have reasons behind it.  You know it.  I know it.  You simply dislike it in THIS case, for whatever reason.  Or, you need to find fault.  Also, your choice.

But that does not make the withholding wrong.

  6. Thank you.  I have been alone before on Thanksgiving and I understand the feeling.

We are in Utah now, so, my family is all back in Texas, and my wife's is in Oklahoma.  Our youngest sin is with us, and our oldest daughter will pop by late passing thru on her way to her new home on the East Coast.  We have invited 6 missionaries for Thanksgiving Dinner.

I wish you all the blessing possible.  Be well.  Be Blessed.

    Hugs from Utah

Let's jump to my point.  If a young member or new convert discovers withheld or hidden information, many times this person is shocked and dismayed, regardless if one says it was withheld or hidden.  Withholding is still objectionable in this case.

That is your opinion.  It is not a fact.  The Lord has often withheld information for whatever reason.  Just because you dislike it does not make it wrong.

Thank you for taking the time to reply.

Often, in a trial, evidence is withheld.  Let me give you an example.  In Texas, in civil trials like car accidents, etc, a person's legal status is withheld.  You cannot ask a plaintiff or defendant or any witness if they are her legally or illegally.  The feeling is, a jury would be pre-disposed against an illegal.  Is the info hidden?  Nope.  Just withheld.

Just a question...kind of a legal one okay???  But do you ultimately believe that this is right and fair.  I am understanding of course, that legal reasons are why things may not be disclosed or hidden.  I just want to know how YOU feel about that.  Thank you in advance.

Do I think not is fair?  That is a vague question.  If I want the evidence to be withheld, and it is, then I think it is very fair.  Smiles.

But if a motion in limine is granted, the jury or judge acts as if the evidence is hidden from view, right?  This evidence that is withheld is also hidden from view of the fact finder as it were because it cannot be used in decision making.

If a Motion in Lim ine is granted, the evidence is withheld...not hidden.  We all know where it is.  And...if the judge rules to withhold evidence during the trial (not subject to the Limine) everyone knows it exists and where it is...it is just withhold

Here is the definition of hide from dictionary.com:

verb (used with object), hid, hidden or hid, hiding.

    1. to conceal from sight; prevent from being seen or discovered:

Where did she hide her jewels?

    2. to obstruct the view of; cover up:

The sun was hidden by the clouds.

    3. to conceal from knowledge or exposure; keep secret:

    to hide one's feelings.

I don't see how that is different from your definition of withhold.  It seems to me that "to refrain from giving or granting" is the same thing as "to conceal from sight; prevent from being seen or discovered."  In both cases the information is not allowed to be out in the open.  Perhaps "withhold" sounds better than "hide?"  Is this why you prefer "withhold" to "hide?"

Shrugs....I can withhold something from you without hiding it.  In fact, in Court, the judge often withholds evidence from the jury, but the evidence is far from hidden.

Elder Ballard said the church never hides anything in the Face to Face interview, but makes no mention of Joseph F. Smith slicing out three pages with "a strange account of the FV" in a journal and  hid it in his vault in 1930. Then when it was leaked by the Tanners he asked a college student to write a thesis on it and then it was put into a 1970 Improvement Era. https://www.ldsfreedomforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=36741

It all seems a little hidden to me. Why wasn't it put into the Ensign? The Improvement Era or The New Era is geared towards the youth or young men/young women. The group that won't really think twice about it because of their age. And interestingly enough the seerstone and polygamy are now taught in Seminary, but not in Gospel Doctrine class? Not hiding? Maybe not to the extent he's projecting but it isn't open enough to include it in other avenues with adults reading/listening.

Also, the hiding of post manifesto polygamy. Apparently it is one of the reasons D. Michael Quinn was ex'd because he brought it out in his book.

When I was a kid, my mother hid things from me that she did not think I was ready for.  Later, she let me know.  I guess I could call her evil and a liar for doing that.  I just always figured she had her reasons and never held it against her.  After reading this thread, I see how wrong I was.  I Hate my mother now.

  13. of all the emails I get asking questions, polygamy is the most-asked.

I tell people this:  There are two possibilities with polygamy: It was from God.....or, it was not from God.

If from God, then who am I to dispute it?

If not, then it was a mistake.  If a mistake, does that make Joseph less of a prophet?  No.  Jonah made mistakes, Moses made mistakes, Peter made mistakes, and I could go on.

So, I do not concern myself with it.
