  1. My brother (a staunch member of the church) lives in Cedar City, Utah, and has been scaring me with some of his beliefs. He believes in the New World Order, chemtrails, the Illuminati, and the widespread practice of satanism by police, judges and politicians. This is apparently a mindset, not only in the church, but throughout the country in the Internet communities. People like Paul Drockton (a non-Mormon) has an Internet audio show and is known for seeing the dark hand of the Illuminati in all things:

Now my brother doesn't believe we have any general authorities who are members of this sinister network, but he does believe bishops and stake presidents are, and that these Satan worshipers sacrifice thousands of people each year. And he believes the lack of evidence for all this is proof that the bad guys have control of the media!

My brother's not the only one. There seems to be a lot of people who subscribe to this type of thinking, but I wonder if the church is aware of how pervasive it is. I also wonder if the church has addressed it in any way.

I'm not entirely new to the conspiracy/UFO/NWO/Illuminai stuff, but when it gets this dark, something needs to be done. On the phone tonight I suggested to my brother that he might want to see someone (like a therapist), but I should have known that most of them are probably paid informants for the NWO.

Does anyone have similar problems and, if so, how are you handling it?

    .

Not sure if this would help you understand the conspiracy theories. I happened to watch an on-demand show on Comcast called Brad Meltzer's Decoded. An episode that talks about the conspiracy theory behind the Statue of Liberty and the Illuminati. Supposedly, as the theory goes, the Illuminati infiltrated the ancient Masonic order and created it what it is today, and that many of the worlds conspiracy theories are sub-roots of the Illuminati's work in bringing about their One World Government.

Best-selling author Brad Meltzer and his team thought they knew what the Statue of Liberty stood for. But now they learn that America's most powerful icon of freedom might actually be loaded with secret symbols put there by a sinister group bent on world domination. They investigate claims that the Illuminati, a secret European society loosely affiliated with the freemasons, turned every inch of the statue into a coded message, from the torch Liberty holds high, to the rays emanating from the crown, even to the precise height of the statue itself. Things get even stranger when a highly regarded numerologist shows the team why he believes the statue is really a monument to the all-powerful number 7. As they evaluate these unsettling claims, Brad and the team are forced to reconsider whether one of America's most enduring symbols is really who she appears to be.

What is interesting about this episode, the group that goes around to find evidence of these clues, is that one of the guys they interview is actually LDS and you can see him open up his Large Print Quad http://www.youtube.c...&has_verified=1 and a freemason

  2. With the new board and domain up and running, I would like to propose some additional subforums here that I personally would like to see.

    1) Investigators Corner -

Those who are investigating the church and would like to ask questions that are pertaining to simple gospel doctrines (not, did BY teach Blood Atonement as it states in the Journal of Discourse?).

    2) Book of Mormon -

Discussions about the Book of Mormon. Whether it is about current New World Archaeology, Textual Criticism, or particular passages within the Book of Mormon, this would be an interesting place to have such threads and discussions.

    3) The Bible -

    4) Doctrine and Covenants

    5) Pearl of Great Price

(The above four are self-explanatory, history, development, text, doctrinal teachings, et all).

    6) Church History - sef-explanatory, topics dealing with Church History, organization, et all

    7) Gospel Principles

A place to discuss current doctrines of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints and answering gospel specific questions

I may add more, but some of these I would love to see here on this board.

  3. My Dad wants me to send him a modern King James Bible. Would that be the NKJV? Any comments on this version?

    Thanks.

I prefer the NASB because the NASB and KJV are Transliterations and not merely just English Translations. The NASB stays true to the poetic literary style of the KJV, but without the Thee's and the Thou's.
