Stay away from the trailer trash. Nobody reputable would publish that stuff. What you are referring to as “trailer trash” and “redneck bait” (two terms I find rather offensive) hasn’t been published yet, so you’ll excuse me for not placing much weight on your opinion. I look forward to your answer to my CFR. Link to comment

Over the past decade Dehlin has completed a PhD in clinical psychology and built a non-profit with this mission: To promote understanding, healing, growth, and community for people experiencing or impacted by religious transition. (From the OSF website) Yeah, I agree with you that's not accurate at all. He's consumed with $$$ and adoration. Tyler Glenn and someone I know in his line of work both say he has narcissistic personality disorder, like our president. Edited January 24, 2019 by Hamilton Porter Link to comment

That's funny, I heard Dan Vogel say this of Joseph Smith while being interviewed by John Dehlin recently ironically. I doubt very much John Dehlin felt like he was that way as well, but ya never know. Link to comment

The "narcissistic personality disorder" is interesting, because I've always thought he has grandiose ideas about himself ... or he can come across that way. I thought it when he admitted that during his mission he believed his destiny was to become a GA. And he has become a sort of GA, not in the church, but GA to the ex-Mormon congregation. 1 Link to comment

I doubt that. Are Oxford, Harvard, and Columbia the only reputable sources? I don’t know who is writing (or has written) them and who might be reviewing them. Similar to the essays published on LDS.org. But, I suspect that they may have the same level of research as those Gospel Topics essays on LDS.org or the new Saints book. More importantly, I will withhold judgment until they are published and even if they aren’t worth reading I still won’t use derogatory names to criticize them. Is there even a single ex-/anti-Mormon who will be writing these essays who is credentialed? Somebody with, say, a Ph.D in Psychology might be qualified to write an essay about LDS gays (even if this person is not an actual licensed practicing clinical psychologist). But would he be qualified to write about church history? Or the BOA? I predict what we'll get are authors like Jeremy Runnells, maybe Bill Reel (Bill would need to use not only a spell checker but a grammar checker), Dan Vogel, Sandra Tanner (if she is still producing material). But not a single author who is actually credentialed in the subject he is writing about. Edited January 24, 2019 by bdouglas Link to comment

But I think it will be someone we haven’t really heard of. And I don’t know what credentials they’ll have, I’m guessing none. But then again, Greg Prince went to dental school and he’s produced some really good material. Dehlin also gave the impression that the author will remain anonymous for now. (Anonymous author with no known credentials at least matches the gospel topics essays on LDS.org.) The way Dehlin said it made me think that it is someone who remains active and is concerned about the potential for discipline for publishing the essays on these topics. (In my stake, that would be a valid concern.) Dehlin also seemed to indicate that the essays might become live documents, like Wikipedia with multiple contributors Edited January 24, 2019 by rockpond Link to comment

It’s how he makes his living. Yes, he has a Ph.D, but he is not licensed, and I’d be surprised if he ever does get licensed to practice. He doesn't want to get licensed because he'd be in trouble with the board for his underhanded methods. You think he'd maintain his license if he were wiretapping people like that? Link to comment

rockpond
FYI... looks like the essays are now live on MS. Perhaps we should take them one at a time and discuss in separate threads. Link to comment
