On the eve of Conference Nelson got a revelation to announce a temple in one of the City’s he was going to be visiting and telling his audience that paying tithing ends poverty....

On a related note, I thought announcing a temple in “A major city yet to be determined in Russia” a bit odd. Is the criteria for temple announcements now really just having a general intention of building one somewhere sometime?

Why? Sometimes the Lord speaks generally and leaves the final details up to his servants. Sometimes he speaks in specifics in accordance with his purposes.  Revelation can be funny that way.

A missionary in my area, who had the gift of prophecy, stood in a Ward building and stated right in front of all in the hallway that their town would become a Stake of Zion and that very building would become the Stake Center.  Those around him chuckled and dismissed what he said.  Just a couple years after he said that it all happened exactly as stated.

Same missionary got stuck at the end of his companion berating him for stopping him from committing a guy to baptism and gave him specific instructions as to what to do to know he could be forgiven for his past and know when he should be baptized.  The junior companion was so angry about it that the other missionaries could not calm him down and the Zone Leaders were called in.  Before they got there, the missionary who had angered his companion dropped to his knees in prayer.  In a few minutes he stood up and told the angry companion that he didn't need to go on about this because the Lord would reveal to the investigator the date he would be baptized and would call them before the end of the next week.  No one believed what he said.  Zone Leaders raised hell about it in more ways than one.  Funny thing is, true to everything that missionary said, it all came to pass and the investigator was baptized on the date set by him after hearing a voice tell him he would be forgiven and on what day he should be baptized.

I personally witnessed that same missionary suddenly stop walking and stare down the street we were passing.  When his companions (he was with his Zone Leaders) asked him what was going on he said that there was a family on that street now ready to hear the Gospel and that they needed to go down that street to find them.  They told him that he would have to call the missionaries for that area and tell them because they weren't going to do that.  He called them, told them that they needed to walk that street for two blocks, both sides of the street (it was a very long street).  He also said that if no one answered to come back that same evening. He was deadly serious but his companions were chuckling.  Everybody else thought it was a big joke but the missionaries in that area went anyway just to say they had done so and found no one.  That night the news came that an entire family on that same street would be baptized.  And they were.

So, again, sometimes revelation is specific and sometimes it isn't.  Sometimes it's a mix. And if that can happen with a spiritual missionary who was filled with faith and the Spirit of God, I think it certainly can and does happen similarly with President Nelson, who holds the keys.
