Church Correlation Research Department Survey

Recommended Posts

My sister bought new garments today, and she said shortly after her purchase, she received the following email.

Before you go saying it’s spam, my sister in law’s father works for church security, and he contacted James Glenn as listed in the email.  It’s totally legit.

I just find the whole thing slightly weird...has the church ever done this before?  Or is this a new effort to gather data on memeber’s views?

When I submitted a suggestion to lds.org, they contacted me and I participated in a couple of surveys on how to make lds.org better.  In one case I went up to a chapel in Orem and worked with a survey guy on appearances to make it easier to use lds.org's features.  I didn't get any fun stuff, but gift cards weren't a big deal then...neither was Amazon iirc.

You might want to remove her email address fast.

Thanks for that.

But I’m wondering about “perceptions and attitudes towards religious participation”.  I understand wanting to make a website better, but this seems like a survey to gauge the views of the membership on a more sober matter.

edit to add:  does this have anything to do with general conference coming up?

Sadly, it's probably completely random.  And they might be sticking to asking some members who have bought garments because they can assume a certain level of testimony and church activity from those members.

They started doing surveys for the church at least 10 years ago.   I'm pretty sure they have never released the demographics they are seeking, or other information about the surveys.    But the church sends unsolicited stuff to our emails for the ward directory from time to time.   It is an easy way for them to keep in touch.

I got new garments! it's probably random though! that they ask members who bought garments, not that I bought new garments, which I only buy when the occasion requires^_^

Yeah, the church does do these.  I got one a few weeks ago about LDS.org's change of format (different than Calm's, which seemed to be a long time ago).  I also did one while ago about garments (part of the research before the new styles got released).  The Church does research things.

Thanks for the responses.  I thought it was interesting that the church was gathering “feedback”, and that they seemed interested in what members have to say.  I was unaware that they had done this previously and kind of got excited that they were maybe planning on revealing some kind of report for GC...oh well

I receive them on occasion. Recently one was sent to my 27 yr. old son but to my email, I don't know why. But I won't tell him about it, because he is pretty anti, and would probably love to get some things off his chest in a bad way. Here is the email and at the bottom they share where in the handbook it's stated that they send these surveys out, I guess verifying that it's okay. I looked it up and read it.

Email content below, I starred out my son's name.

************,

We recently sent you an invitation to participate in a Church survey. If you have already completed the survey, thank you. If you have not yet completed the survey, please refer to a copy of the letter and instructions below:

(my garment sleeves frequently are too long for regular ol' t-shirts).

That's interesting.  That's one problem I've never had, and I have long arms.

I always buy XLT.

Two years ago the church reached out to me via email to participate in a series of surveys.  Every week or two they would send out a new 15-20 minute survey.  I think there were around 6 in total.  It was a fairly comprehensive survey regarding our thoughts on everything from boy scouts, temple garments, pornography, tithing, etc.  I voiced my frustration in 2 areas, 1) as a scout master and the boy scout program, and 2) temple garment sleeve lengths (my garment sleeves frequently are too long for regular ol' t-shirts).  2 years later and the boy scouts are gone and they just shortened the sleeves for men's garments!  Hurrah! I guess they listen.

I was never offered any Amazon gift card though!  I feel cheated.

I have the same problem with T-shirts.  Garment sleeves stick out if I wear a large T-shirt (my size) so I have to wear XL or pull the sleeves up.  I need to try these new garments asap!

I didn't even get gas money when I had to drive all the way out to North Orem!!! to participate in a survey on best graphic design for the Church historical site section!! (Ah, already mentioned above...)

It's really nice to see that the men aren't being shamed for wanting and having garments that actually fit under the clothing they wear.

The other day my husband wore an older style of garment with the neckline that almost swooped below his chest. It showed through his thinner shirt, oh how I wanted him to change his garment top, but he didn't. I will have to confiscate those. Excited for him to wear the newer ones.

Doe anyone still use the one piece garment with the trap door? They still sell them on line. On my mission they were very useful when I had to sit on some scary looking cold toilet seats.

I know a couple of men who still do. They are quite proud of it. They view it as an even greater protection against sxual sin because it makes access more difficult. I was part of a disciplinary council for a young man who was sent home from his mission for immorality. The bishop I was serving with at the time made a comment like "if he was wearing the one piece like I do he wouldn't have had that problem". Personally, I don't agree, but then again, maybe he has a point :)
