The Mountain Meadows Massacre

In the long run, the church would prob be better off to jetison the first 100 years or so...then say something like: Here's a religion / belief system that has some sound principles, including taking care of your body through sound nutrition, avoiding sexual probs (family & health), and also brings some souls to Christ and His gospel.

As a point of fact, we do focus primarily on the doctrines of the gospel, however, there are those that won't let history alone. They search and search and search to find holes in LDS history - even when holes don't exist - just so they can feel vindicated in their hatred or hostility towards the LDS church, while, at the same time, igoring the rather tainted history of Christianity as a whole including the open and illegal persecution of the early LDS church. They do so in the disguised search for truth, when inr eality, truth of history is often rather subjective and rest mostly in the eyes of the beholder.

And the whole time, they ignore the beauty of the gospel of Jesus Christ and his atonement.

The MMM was a tragedy that never should have happened, but that event doesn't change the gospel one bit, any more than other tragedies in Christianity's long history.
