Sunday'S Broadcast Will "Cement President Monson'S Place As The Missionary Prophet"

Similar to how President Hinckley is the "temple prophet." This, according to an unnamed member of the presidency of the Seventy to missionaries in our mission (the elder I did splits with didn't remember his name). I have to admit, I'm with The Nehor in needing to see it to believe it, given the recent tendency to over-hype on the part of Church headquarters (e.g., teasers about a "historic" conference turning out to refer to the renovating of the Tabernacle, etc.). In trying to think beforehand about things that would blow me away, the only thing I can come up with is announcing that all missions will now be fully funded through tithing (I don't think this will happen, and don't think it would be good if it did ---- but it would blow me away). My prediction is that several new MTCs other than Mexico City will be announced. What are yours? (Sorry about the formatting ---- I can't start new paragraphs on this site). Thanks!

Sister APs reporting to Mission 'First Lady'

Discard white handbook and simply ask missionaries to keep the commandments.

No more white shirts & ties. Coloured shirts and open collar an option.

All investigators to be taught a church history course. Curriculum set by our friends at MT.

Yeah that would definitely blow people away. Likelihood of happening somewhere betweeen zero and zip.

Don't worry, my tongue was firmly in cheek by the end of it :) I wouldn't let the vultures at MT loose on an enemy.

As for the others... I think it would be pretty cool to relax the 'corporate uniform' a little. But I guess they have an established brand image.

I think steps were already taken to create a leadership structure for the sisters. I think a stronger leadership role for mission mum might be a good move.

As for white handbook. You're right. Those 18yos probably need a tighter not looser reign.

I'm honestly not holding my breath about there being much to go 'wow' at.

A mission in mainland China (finally!)

Open an MTC in Israel.

Israel doesn't even allow us to proselyte do they?

The uniform is part of our "normalcy" defined as White Middle-Class Businessmen from the 1950's -- can't risk blowing that image.

Indeed. It's a better brand cue than Ronald Macdonald.

I'll take a wild stab at reading the tealeafs. I predict that President Monson will make major announcements revolving around women's leadership issues. Specifically, women will be allowed to serve at 18 and for 2 years, just like men. And, more dramatic, the church will now call "mission presidents" comprising of a husband-wife presidency rather than just a male mission president. Effective immediately, all wives of mission presidents are called to be mission presidents. If things really get out of hand, he may also announce that bishop's wifes are now also joint-bishops, or something along those lines.

Who said anything about proselytizing. They were planning to build it in Saudi Arabia, but that didn't turn out very well.

What's the point of an MTC in a country you cannot proselyte in?

Listen to this talk given by Lee Donaldson of the Missionary dept. he talks about this meeting on sunday, calling it the "meeting of the century" I think social media and the use thereof is the big thing

Elder Nelson called it the "meeting of the century"? I guess that means Adam-ondi-Ahman has been pushed back another hundred years at least. Dang.

BTW, I think you're right about the social media thing. I was talking to someone who works for the Church and he said that it is anticipated that missionary work in China in the coming decades will be done mostly online. Which makes sense really.

Unless Adam comes out and conducts the Meeting and confirms that the false location of the Hill Cumorah messed with Joseph's geography and Salt Lake is the real Adam Ondi Ahman.... ooohhhhh I think I just got goosebumps.

I would LOVE to see a greater emphasis on service. Maybe instead of 4 hours a week the missionaries can dedicate four or five times that much. I served in a very low baptizing mission and when I think of all the time spent knocking doors while no one was home, it makes me cringe. Just think of the good we could of done giving service to the people during those less effective times of the day. IMO, It's a much more effective tool for bringing people into the church, plus it's the right thing to do. With the huge increase in missionaries, now would be the time to do it.

That being said, from the rumors I've heard it's just going to be a renewed focus on reactivation. Here's to hoping I'm wrong!

Thanks for the link Duncan. Very interesting. Echos some things I heard from Elder Perry recently. I would not be surprised at all if technology issues were discussed. But I just don't see how giving missionaries iPads, or signing them up with Twitter and Weibo accounts, rises to the level of a "meeting of the century". For that kind of hoopla, there must be a more structural change happening. Perhaps formal missionary training as part of the YW/YM program. Perhaps each stake will open a mini-MTC with electronic proselyting tools alongside the Family History Centers. But even those changes seem like footnote material when future saints are writing the history of the 21st century church.

Well, if you listen to the link Duncan provides, Brother Donalson says that the speakers will include President Monson, President Packer, Elder Perry, Elder Nelson and "one other apostle" yet to be named. Perhaps John? That would be something. Or perhaps Mary? Now that would be the meeting of the century.

Especially if she were to confirm she was given priesthood.

I'd love to see more service too.

I think you're on to something with the reactivation. We've already seen recent changes in using FT missionaries as hometeachers and visiting teachers in our ward. Perhaps the day will come when an honorable release from missionary service essentially means that your hometeaching route drops from 40 families to 5. :mega_shok:

This had really better be worth staying up for. Otherwise... I'll come and post a message about it or something...

I believe GMT is 7 hours ahead of SLC. Good thing the church is allowing you to rearrange your 11:00 pm meetings (i.e., sleep). Perhaps BCC or T&S will live blog the event like they do for conference. That helps to keep one awake.
