Tacenda Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 Anybody here planning on going or wanting to attend ?????I want to go, and tie it into a trip to Nauvoo with my husband. Can't wait to see the agenda with times and dates!

Scott Lloyd Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 ... and the position Mormons outside the Intermountain West often find themselves in.What position is that, and what does it have to do with geography?
Tacenda Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 Checking flights, figuring out places to go, the temps there at this time, and then present it to my husband. Hopefully, we'll make it and I'll for sure say "hi". Sounds like there will be some great speakers.

We know of Kirtland because of our history. But for most everyone else in Ohio, Kirtland is known for two things: a state championship high school football program and an annual wine-fest (yes, the irony).
Buckeye Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 What position is that, and what does it have to do with geography?I imagine they mean the missionary position position of being a small misunderstood minority. 1

Here's one, Nauvoo, Illinois is on a list of places you want to visit before you die, who'd a thunk it? But even though it's a 10 or so hour drive, I'd like to get over to the conference and see Amish country. Is there anything in between Nauvoo and Kirtland that would be interesting? I mentioned something in Chicago, and my husband sort of poo-poo'd the idea. But maybe a nice golf course will do the trick! Thanks Buckeye.

There are plenty of good courses in Ohio, including one almost in my backyard, but the weather is always iffy in April. For church sites, you should budget at least 2-3 days for Nauvoo and 1/2 day for Kirtland. If you have them time, there are many other historical sites to visit around Kirtland - John Johnson farm, Fairport harbor, etc, the temple quarry, etc., but Kirtland itself will not take much more than 1/2 a day. Amish country is centered around Holmes county - about 1.5 hours south of Kirtland. Between Nauvoo and Kirtland, Chicago has the most to offer by far. Just depends on what you're looking for. I went to grad school in Chicago and could give you pointers. Too bad Cedar Point doesn't open until May 11.
DBMormon Posted March 13, 2013 Author Posted March 13, 2013 (edited) What position is that, and what does it have to do with geography?away from concentrated LDS populations. What they deal with is different Edited March 13, 2013 by DBMormon
cinepro Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 (edited) From the title I thought this was a conference for Mormons who are finding themselves in the "middle" of full belief and just plain leaving. If that's not what this is, then someone should totally do something like that. There's probably a big need for such gatherings, and what could go wrong? Edited March 13, 2013 by cinepro 1
Scott Lloyd Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 From the title I thought this was a conference for Mormons who are finding themselves in the "middle" of full belief and just plain leaving. That was pretty much my impression -- that it was a double entendre implying the location in the Midwest and being midway between belief and rejection. Hence my question about what it has to do with geography.
ALarson Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 From the title I thought this was a conference for Mormons who are finding themselves in the "middle" of full belief and just plain leaving.I thought this too. I was even more convinced when I saw that Kevin Kloosterman was involved. But maybe I'm wrong?

Ohio. It will always be a special place for me.

There's probably a big need for such gatherings, and what could go wrong? This does include a segment of them. It has been expressed that this conference is for any LDS who find themselves in the middleMidwest, middle of the mormon moment, middle way, middle of a faith crisis, ect....
DBMormon Posted March 13, 2013 Author Posted March 13, 2013 I plan to discuss faith crisis and Grace in ways that leave others hopeful and reaching for faith in the restored gospel. So I am reaching out to that segment

It has been expressed that this conference is for any LDS who find themselves in the middleMidwest, middle of the mormon moment, middle way, middle of a faith crisis, ect....How will these be different than the Mormon Stories conferences that Kloosterman was involved with? Just curious. Thanks!

"We will now begin with an opening hymn, 'You're not the boss of me now'." 2
Buckeye Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 How will these be different than the Mormon Stories conferences that Kloosterman was involved with? Just curious. Thanks! To give such an analysis we would need to know what the MS conferences with Kloosterman were like.
DBMormon Posted March 13, 2013 Author Posted March 13, 2013 How will these be different than the Mormon Stories conferences that Kloosterman was involved with? Just curious. Thanks!Pointing people back to the church rather then pointing them away
Scott Lloyd Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 Pointing people back to the church rather then pointing them awayDehlin would say that's what he has been doing -- in some instances.
ALarson Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 To give such an analysis we would need to know what the MS conferences with Kloosterman were like.If you search "Kevin Kloosterman, Mormon Stories", you'll see his involvement. I know he was a part of at least one podcast, spoke at conferences and I believe helped organize others.
ALarson Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 So a conference for the Malcolm in all of us? "We will now begin with an opening hymn, 'You're not the boss of me now'."That's funny. LOL
