I watched this Mia Love last night and on the cable news channels.  This woman is so articulate, well spoken and very energized.  With knowing nothing about her, she came across so well and impressive.

My question is quite obvious:  Is she a shill for the GOP or is she the real thing.  Does she have the same recognition and respect in UTah or does she fall subject to the woman/black heritage?  I thought she was outstanding and can't wait to hear her on center stage at the convention.  I hear she is running for US Congress in the state as a conservative.  And as conservative as Utah is, I was wondering if she has any recognition or respect there locally.  For Utah to elect a woman, and a black woman at that to the US congress would be OUTSTANDING IMHO.

But I would love to hear from those in Utah if this is even remotely possible - even today?  Anyone know?

And this is not a political thread - but one about a Mormon woman who has become as noted as Ann Romney in this convention.

Is she for real in Utah?

I've heard nice things about her. She is also featured in a video on the 'I'm a Mormon' on mormon.org.

Just hope she isn't being used by Romney.  Love Mitt.  But is this gal significant in Utah?!

I think the biggest issue is that Matheson has been around for so long...he is very familiar to the district and has a bigger war chest, has the perception of having greater power in Congress so can get things for his district....there is a sense of 'investment' in longtime congressman, that is huge obstacle to overcome for any newcomer to overcome.

Being a woman might be a negative from studies I've seen recently, being black and a woman as articulate and "energized" as she is, likely a positive.

She won against 3 white guys with more experience in the Republican Primary.  I suspect it will be mostly about the party District 4 wants to vote in this time around.

Matheson has a huge amount of money in his war chest compared to Love's.

Oh, please!   Your cynicism is sorely misplaced.  Wittingly or not, your post smacks of a certain variety of paternalism toward us allegedly benighted Utah souls.  I think Ms. Love could have used some more seasoning before her advent on the national stage.  I'm sure, in your mind, that makes me a racist.  (I felt the same way about Governor Sarah Palin four years ago.)  That having been said, if she can persuade enough of the electorate that she can do the job, more power to her.  Far be it from me to stand in her way.

Significant in what sense?  I think she is quite popular, but she doesn't have a lot of political experience, only 8 years on a City Council, two of them as the Mayor and Saratoga Springs isn't that big of a city.

Channeling Joe Biden, again Oliviero?

No- the question is are YOU for real?  And despite the denial below, this gratuitous political slur (along with the unsupported innuendo about Mormon racism) makes it amply clear that this thread IS both a political smear and a bigoted attack on religion.

Does she have the same recognition and respect in UTah or does she fall subject to the woman/black heritage?
Call For References.   What "woman/black heritage" thing?

Except where the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT stripped them of their rights, Mormon women have held the vote rights in the United States longer than any other state except Wyoming.

And I defy you to find anything codified in the laws of the State of Utah requiring or endorsing disparate people based upon race.

No segregation.

No poll taxes.

No look-the-other way juries.

Was there bigotry in Utah- yes.

Was it codified in the law as it was in the East? Not hardly.

In point of fact, I challenge you to find a single example of insitutionalized racism by the State of Utah in the last fifty years.

Your inneundo and insinuations are blatantly false, blatantly bigoted, and blatantly inflammatory- designed not to advance the conversation, but to perpetuate offensive and bigoted stereotypes.

I agree- Mrs. Love is a fantastic candidate with a bright future- one that has NOTHING TO DO WITH HER GENDER OR ETHNICITY.

In other words- for you, it's all about the color of her skin, and the opportunity to take a cheap shot at the people of Utah and the Mormon faith.

Before you make a bigger *** of yourself (though I don't see how that's possible). you might want to educate yourself.

Call For References, Oliviero.  Why would it NOT be possible?

Bull.  This is a backhanded smear at "racist" and "sexist" Mormons and Utahns.

What do the current polls say in Utah?  That will answer my question. Does UTAH recognize and respect her?

Do your own Google search for the polling data.

Answer the CFR.

You made the bigoted assertions.

Defend them.

If a Utahn, some Utahns, or a majority of Utahns disagree with Ms. Love on a policy level or don't think she's qualified (and I'm not saying that I fall into either of those categories) are we racist?

So you don't actually read links while demanding info and using inflammatory terms....why am I not surprised.

I think she's a great person, what she lacks in experience she makes up for in enthusiasm.  But I fear that Matheson has the power and money behind him.

I guess some think she is a big spender and will fit in well with the Washington crowd.
