Duncan Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 President L. Ron Hubbard was Elder Trent Reznor's former Mission President and sent him home when he discovered that Elder Reznor had been involved with a woman, details of which you can find on his CD "Pretty Hate Machine"
The Nehor Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 I got into a discussion at work about Scientology and just wandering if he was LDS at one timeNo but his thetan was. 1
rpn Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 If the OP is serious, then the answer is how would any of us know? Mr. Hubbard is certainly not claiming so? (And the name can't be too unique so there may be A person with that name, without it being THE person who you are asking about.
Duncan Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 No but his thetan was.what the blankety-blank is that?
The Nehor Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 what the blankety-blank is that?http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thetan
The Nehor Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 The bad ones are the ghosts of the victims of Lord Xenu, Dictator of the Galactic Confederacy who he killed with Hydrogen bombs on earth (then known as Teegeeack) about 75 million years ago. After he killed them he sucked them into some kind of magnetic ribbon and implanted false beliefs in them like Christianity and Psychology. Then Xenu was overthrown and the earth was quarantined. Now everyone is covered in thetans except for those who give lots of money to Scientology to have them removed. So all other religions come from thetans therefore some thetans are LDS.

Popular Post mfbukowski Posted August 4, 2012 Popular Post Posted August 4, 2012 (edited) I'm sure there are many levels in which Scientologists understand this.I don't think that with our Kolob and talking about God's father, and us becoming Gods, and that Jesus of Nazareth who died 2000 years ago will end up coming back to be the king of the world for a thousand years, and baptizing dead people, we are in such a good position to be critical of what sound like absurd beliefs at first blush. That goes along with eating flesh and drinking Christ's blood and the idea that God had to torture himself to death to forgive himself for our sins, and all we have to do is say we believe in Jesus and we will live forever. As a former atheist myself, it really all does sound a little weird you know. I suppose we should be sensitive to what religious models work for others if we want them to be respectful of ours. Edited August 4, 2012 by mfbukowski 10

It's just we have a plausible story for how we know ours (prophets and revelation) while they just declare it with no explanation for how they know about ancient galactic politics.
Carborendum Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 No Roseanne Bares's Ward,OK, I just got an image in my mind of a "bare" Rosanne Barr. Must...push...image...out of my brain...

I have heard it suggested that it would have been "better" in the sense of easier to understand if Joseph had merely received revelation from angel and written it down than the story of the gold plates and the Abraham papyrus "translation". No translation problems, no two Cumorahs, no anachronisms etc.On the other hand, since the Nephites are believed to be actual history, one would expect artifacts. But the fact that the angel took back the "evidence" doesn't help us much.Really, none of this makes sense without a testimony. But the key is, as someone once said, "for those who believe in revelation, there can be no question; for those who do not believe in revelation, there can be no answer." CASteinman Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 I got into a discussion at work about Scientology and just wandering if he was LDS at one timeI don't know if anyone took your question seriously. I recall reading a biography about him and as far as I recall, I don't think he had anything to do with LDS beliefs at all. He was, I think, somehow associated with for a time - as Aleister Crowley as I recall. But not with any LDS people. I am 99% certain he was not raised LDS. I have done some research on this and I cannot find any evidence he was baptized, his parents were baptized or his grandparents were baptized.

So all other religions come from thetans therefore some thetans are LDS.I used to follow Sci Fi writer- and fan-dom a bit, and the fact is, L. Ron Hubbard was at one time a professional science fiction author. The word in the community was that he one time commented to a few of his colleagues in some conference or other, that a science fiction writer was the most highly qualified kind of person to come up with a religion. And apparently Scientology was the result of a bet between him and another prominent writer to this effect.Of course, this sounds like the kind of thing that was thrown at Joseph Smith, sooooo ... I present it only as speculation I picked up. But as a follower of science fiction, The Nehor's description above sounds very much like something the genre would produce.
Robert F. Smith Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 No Roseanne Bares's Ward,That's Rosanne Barr. She came from SLC, where she used to perform with the Saliva Sisters. Look it up.
