I wonder how many replies we can generate to a non-existent thread?
This is becoming a conceptual art piece.

In spite of the world's arguments against the historicity of the Flood, and despite the supposed lack of geologic evidence, we Latter-day Saints believe that Noah was an actual man, a prophet of God, who preached repentance and raised a voice of warning, built an ark, gathered his family and a host of animals onto the ark, and floated safely away as waters covered the entire earth. We are assured that these events actually occurred by the multiple testimonies of God's prophets.

I think you're getting your ad hominems mixed up. The grocery store smear concerned another scholar, whose magisterial works are owned, used, and appreciated by virtually every scholar who currently does any serious work on Joseph Smith. Your confusion is understandable, however, since most of the smears of Palmer were similarly inappropriate and irrelevant.

Thank you, Chris. I must say, I disagree with Palmer on most of his conclusions. However, I'll judge his scholarship on its own merits and leave his personal life (and appearance) to himself.
If MDDB members ever wonder why so many people are fed up with the current state of Mormon apologetics, this thread is a classic example. It's something I'd expect to see while browsing the TrailerPark™ to be quite honest.
Mormon Studies as a whole has benefitted greatly from so-called "amateur" scholars, particularly those involved with Dialogue, The Journal of Mormon History, BYU Studies, and several self-published authors with careers largely unrelated to Mormonism and the study of religion in general.
