This crazy thought came to me the other day.  We live in a world today that has more people on it than has ever existed and the numbers are likely to increase until we reach maximum capacity or obliterate ourselves.  The question is simple;
  • are the number of pre-existant souls limitless?
  • and if the earth has a finite existence won't there be some who don't inherit bodies?

You mean there might have to be worlds without number, some populated with children of God?  Who'da thunk it?

Strange thoughts, but then we all get carried away.  I would say that it reminds me of being blown about by every wind of doctrine.

Let's start with creation.  God is not limited and his creations are infinite.  Thus, all is infinite.

I don't know how the earth's existence would limit bodies existing.  What we know is that the purpose of Jesus' resurrection is that all be given a body.  I cannot get to any other place other than we will have a glorified body upon our resurrection.

I think you may be trying to ask if the earth has a finite surface then can only a finite number of souls live upon her?  That is logical, but I don't know what the surface area of the new earth will be and I don't really know or understand how the Celestial Kingdom will work.  My advice would be to have faith in God and know that he has it worked out.  No need for strees or worry; drink your cup of warm milk and join us all in a good night's rest.

I. Not limitless, but it is a very large number.
2. Not if you allow for more than one world.

The number of bodies created will go on until we reach maximum capacity but before that time will be a period of bodies created but no more souls to fill them.

Understood and well received, but...it gives pause to think what a soul actually is.  If we are formed from the our unique dust and evolutionary situations then how different would be the form that other souls would have?  Maybe I am debating how many angels can dance on the head of pin, but it is still a bit paradoxical.

Interesting thought...where did you hear, see, or read  this?
