It makes a great deal of difference which philosophies of men are under consideration. To be learned is good, so long as the precepts conform to the revealed word of God.
What precepts might that be? The LDS idea? The Reformed idea?
Truth claims are claims and not justifiable fact.
10 a. Collectively and individually, you are loved with an everlasting love that delights in each faithful step taken. God yearns to draw you close so that wounds may be healed, emptiness filled, and hope strengthened.
b. Do not turn away in pride, fear, or guilt from the One who seeks only the best for you and your loved ones. Come before your Eternal Creator with open minds and hearts and discover the blessings of the gospel anew. Be vulnerable to divine grace. -D&C 163:10
Definitely so. An interesting question might be why history won't be precisely repeated - what will save the Church?
A few decades ago I had a very short but interesting dream in which I found myself in a large room divided into two parts by one of those soft ropes you sometimes find in bank lines. There were round tables in the room, some of them occupied. I asked a table occupant on the other side of the rope divider from me, what was up with the room diviision, to which he disdainfully replied, "We're orthodox Mormons!" Implying, I guess, that I wasn't.
Well, I still think that the earth wasn't created in six 24-hour periods, and that evolution is or was operative upon this earth. If this isn't orthodox enough, then oh, well.

Heterodoxy is not the issue. Heteropraxy, in the form of discrediting the scriptures, doctrines, or Brethren, is a problem.
However, what started me in thinking on this chain is that heterodoxy seems always to be a necessary, and not sufficient, precondition for heteropraxy. Would you agree with this observation? Or have I made a hasty generalization?
If my mental processes are determined wholly by the motions of atoms in my brain, I have no reason to suppose my beliefs are true ... and hence I have no reason for supposing my brain to be composed of atoms. - J. B. S. Haldane
