Nobody gives you all the facts all at once, leastwise anti-Mormons and hostile critics. If selective focus or emphasis amounts to deceit, they are the worst of offenders.
If I detest anything as virulently as anti-Mormons obviously detest Mormonism, feel free to label me as "anti-" the thing I detest. I won't mind in the least.
An author who undertakes to criticize publicly another's religious faith and practice has the obligation, in the first instance, to understand it.
... and the anti-Mormon saith unto them: I am no anti-Mormon, for there is none — and thus he whispereth in their ears.

Love you Scott - and all your quircky intermountain friends!
We like to blame Utah for all of the weird Church policy announcements we get here in the mission field. But in truth a lot of those probably stem from events in California.

Utah's in the mission field too. Come July, there will be two additional missions in the Salt Lake area alone.

LDS doctrine defined. The first bullet point is the key.
Capitalism from the Lord: Law of Consecration.
Evolution Primer Evolution does not conflict with LDS doctrine in any way.

You'll note, however, that God is a respecter of geography.
The Scriptures are replete with references to "choice lands" and "lands that are blessed above all others".
It is self-evident that these are merely coded references to Texas.
On the other hand, we have references to lands that are under various curses or which were "smitten for the Lord's sake".
This clearly refers to their status as "not Texas."

I think God and I have very different tastes. Jerusalem is not that nice and anyone who looks at Missouri and thinks that is a great place for a promised land is either confused or has very different standards.
I support NCMO.

Sorry, no ... The scriptures don't say that the Lord called his people Zion because they were from New York or Pennsylvania or Ohio or Illinois or Utah or Texas. They say that the Lord called his people Zion because they were of one heart and one mind, and dwelt in righteousness, and there were no poor among them. I don't think the whole we're-the-children-of-Abraham thing flies, whatever locale one is speaking of. Zion is in Texas, and Arizona, and California, and Utah ... and not-Zion is also in Texas, and Arizona, and California, and Utah. The Lord is able to raise up children of Abraham from rocks ... in Texas, and Arizona, and California, and Utah.
Incidentally, I guess the California Mormons among whom I joyfully served as a missionary just forgot to obey that additional Article of Faith about turning their noses up at me because I'm a ... Utah Mormon.

By way of contrast, though, you'll notice we've never caught any of the Apostles singing, "I Wish They All Could Be California Girls".
There is wisdom to be found in that silence.

Having never heard the term "Asian Fever", I did a quick Google.
(In the interests of accuracy, it was actually Bing- I don't care for Google's new "record every key stroke for your own good" security policy).
The first six results were references to Larry Flynt productions....which I doubt is what you meant.
Is this Asian Fever similar in any way to Boogie Fever, Disco Fever, or Saturay Night Fever?
Cuz I'm having a really hard time picturing President Monson in the white tux, black shirt, and gold-chains popularized in that era.
