Songs That Have Inspired You Or Have Drawn You Into Deeper Worship...

I Stand All Amazed is special to me and was sung at my moms funeral. I know it's often a favorite of many but just as significant.. Also, Amazing Grace, when I'd visit my mom in the Alzheimer's unit of the Care Center a resident would sing it to eveyone that entered. (They think she had Picks disease, not sure what that is.) But it was beautiful!

I Stand All Amazed is such an amazing hymn.

Last night I was at a Fireside where they played a video featuring a re-enactment of settlers using Hand Carts to cross the plains. The background music was "Come, Come Ye Saints. The lyrics were displayed also. The song really touched me.

Many of the LDS hymns speak deeply to me and as I'm new to LDS they're "new" to me.

Here are a few others I hope you like:

A beautiful song on the Saviour's gift to us and the only response we can give "I Kneel Down"

The life/songs of Rich Mullins are a continual source of inspiration:

just listened to the Rich Mullins song a line really spoke to me - "I may falter in my steps but never beyond your reach " - something I know to be true, thank you Heavenly Father.

I like how he said our God is a wild God. That's the first time I've heard that. But it says to me he is accepting of me in a come what may, way. Thanks for posting this Antoni, wherever you are!! Edited by Tacenda

There is one song that, from the first time I heard it, has inspired me to be a better person.

I also realize that this is not a religious song in the slightest, in fact, whenever i put the album on when I was married to my second wife, she'd roll her eyes and usually leave the room.

The song is Time by Pink Floyd from the "Dark Side of the Moon" album.

The song is about wasting time and realizing it too late in life.

Ticking away the moments

That make up a dull day

Fritter and waste the hours

In an off-hand way

Kicking around on a piece of ground

In your home town

Waiting for someone or something

To show you the way

Tired of lying in the sunshine

Staying home to watch the rain

You are young and life is long

And there is time to kill today

And then the one day you find

Ten years have got behind you

No one told you when to run

You missed the starting gun

(Solo)

And you run and you run

To catch up with the sun

But it's sinking

Racing around

To come up behind you again

The sun is the same

In a relative way

But you're older

Shorter of breath

And one day closer to death

Every year is getting shorter

Never seem to find the time

Plans that either come to naught

Or half a page of scribbled lines

Hanging on in quiet desperation

Is the English way

The time is gone

The song is over

Thought I'd something more to say

Home

Home again

I like to be here

When I can

When I come home

Cold and tired

It's good to warm my bones

Beside the fire

Far away

Across the field

Tolling on the iron bell

Calls the faithful to their knees

To hear the softly spoken magic spell...

What songs have helped you to experience worship more fully? Any favorites to share? Please post so that we may all enjoy! Here is a song that I have appreciated lately.... I posted two but I am having technical difficulties (lol) Second is on the way (I hope!)

When I was first doing the Missionary Discussions, listening to "More Holiness Give me" on Youtube, as performed by Jenny Phillips, was greatly comforting.

Glad you liked it Tacenda, I'm still around! just been Lurking rather than posting as I'm busy as I start a new job in a few weeks. Mullins certainly had a way of putting things that resonates with me.

Shame the I Kneel Down video is no longer up on You Tube, there are no other versions of Kendrick singing it unfortunately.

The youngest son of Joseph, David Hyrum, born some months after his martyrdom, has some excellent hymns and was know in the RLDS Church as the "Sweet Singer of Israel". Here are the lyrics from one of my favorites...

"Let us pray for one another,

For the day is fading fast,

And the night is growing darker,

While the scourge goes flaming past:

We can see it in the darkness,

Closing round our narrow way,

And the snares are growing thicker ;

For each other let us pray.

We are walking down times vista;

We are very near the end;

Let us pray that God the Father,

May his guiding Spirit send.

Now "the foe becomes more daring,"

Knowing well the latter day;

'Tis-the strength of his despairing,

For each other let us pray.

Pray in faith, and pray unceasing,

To the God we love and trust,

For our prayers are much availing,

If we walk upright and just.

Be not weary of exhorting,

Heed the lesson of each day,

And that we may be unwav'ring ;

For each other let us pray.

It is waning on to midnight,

Soon we'll hear the watchman say,

"See ! the Son of God is coming;

Go and meet him on the way."

That our lamps may then be burning,

Bright enough to guide our way,

And that we may share his glory,

For each other let us pray."

Beautiful lyrics and a song of earnest prayer. Thanks for sharing.
