Well, I hope I'm not one of those creepy posters!!!

But thanks for the good advice.
Oh no, he is talking about me. Lol. But I agree with what Nemesis said and that is really the ultimate purpose why I chose not to use my real name.

I wouldn't use my real name on this board, the posters at MDB are way to creepy. I could just imagine what damage they would try to do if they knew my identity.  I suggest you think about safety of your family first then decide if you want your identity known to other anonymous posters not just here but anyone with access to a search engine.  Another thing you must consider is that what is written or put on the internet is never erased and sometimes what is written is taken out of context as a weapon.

Think safety,

Nemesis

Good advice.  Unfortunately, it's too late in my case.

I found some good reading material for anybody interested...

The administrator will not allow me to link to this webpage, so you will have to find it on your own.

Go to abine.com and the article is titled:

To be (anonymous) or not to be: Should you use your real name on the internet?
The fundamental principles of our religion are the testimony of the Apostles and Prophets, concerning Jesus Christ, that He died, was buried, and rose again the third day, and ascended into heaven; and all other things which pertain to our religion are only appendages to it.  -Joseph Smith

I don't use my real name because i don't think it would be very smart, safety-wise.  My friends know my first name, which i'm perfectly fine with.

I sometimes wonder if the mods are people with two "hats", as it were, if they are regular posters under one screen name, and under another screen name are Ominipotent dividers between Good and Evil..  .

A truth that I had to face is that if I used my "real name", no one here would know me anyway.     One thing I like about using "monikers" is that everyone is equal and the playing field is level for all posters.  Meaning, a member can speak with the same authority as a GA and a GA can speak as a member.

Of course there is a down side too.  It can open the door for people to say things to others that they would never say to their face.

Even though this causes problems for others, ultimately (I'm speaking really ultimately as in judgment day) I believe it is a good thing because it will reveal to the individual what he values, such as making perceived points against someone as opposed to treating others with courtesy and kindness....obviously in these cases pride wins out over compassion.
When you climb up a ladder, you...begin at the bottom...ascend step by step, until you arrive at the top...so it is with the principles of the Gospel--you must begin with the first...go on until you learn all the principles of exaltation. But it will be a great while after you have passed through the veil before you will have learned them. It is not all to be comprehended in this world. Joseph Smith

I have no problem using my real name.  My name is Dr George Young.  I live in Gaylord, Mi.  I am a Chiropractor.  I chose a screen name because I thought it was expected of me.  I don't care one way or another.

Mostly I use a moniker because I am like others ---- paranoid -----.  Also, my church responsibilities are such that I don't want to offend any members who might know me and wonder about my testimony, etc.  Maybe I  will change later.  I have started to use my initials so I guess that is progress.  MW

That's my real first name, sort of.  My first name is spelled 'Brady', but as long as I can remember friends and family have called me Brade (sounds like 'braid') and when I was a kid I started spelling my name with an 'e'.  So, there you go.  That's also a real picture of me.  Come at me bro.

You are not a target of the tin hat brigade of mdb as most of us here are. I can name 4 people that they have been their targets and their real identities used as weapons.  You see that's the farce of their free speech, when you can use real life ammunition to silence your opponent while you sit all nice and cozy behind a fake persona.  Once again, think about your family and your own safety.  It's just a message board that should not be taken so seriously.

I'm interested to know what you're talking about.  The main thing that comes to mind is Dr whatsisname's Dr. Peterson fetish.

Ttribe, Juliann, William Schryver, and Seatleghostwriter are their most recent targets where they dug up in real life info and used it to silence their opposition.  They are all cautionary tales of why it's good to remain anonymous.  Dr. Peterson is a more consistent target however Scratch thought it would be fun to dig up dirt on dcp son and post it on mdb.

Used my real name on another forum in the past and ended up with a vile stalker, who made my life and my families life hell for a few years, till we moved.
There is safety in being anonymous . Anyway those who run the site have my real name, so I don't feel, when I post, that it's in hiding or carries less weight. Not that my posts carry any weight anyway.
