Doctrine 612 Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 Something new to talk about for the next 6 months
mercyngrace Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 You've got to be kidding me! GC is my favorite way to "do" church.10. Comfortable seating in my own living room.9. Casual dress (pajamas).8. No standing to sing the intermediate hymn.7. Hymns are optional and can be replaced by pretzel M&M and diet Mt. Dew intermission.6. No ironing church clothes.5. No climbing over the people in your pew and disrupting the meeting for a bathroom break.4. Between session BBQ with family and friends. (This alone makes the weekend worthwhile.)3. No pre-church fighting with the kids to get them out the door on time.2. If I feel ambitious, I can do housework and still listen.1. If I don't feel ambitious, I have easy access to pillows and a blanket.
mfbukowski Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 Ah yes, the same thread we get every six months, right on schedule.Give it a rest.I can't wait.Guess that shows how stupid I am.
mercyngrace Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 Ah yes, the same thread we get every six months, right on schedule.Give it a rest.I can't wait.Guess that shows how stupid I am.Ahh - don't take it so seriously! Have a little fun with it I've always loved GC - even if I don't learn something new, I get reminded of things that matter to me and inspired to reach outside myself and serve my fellow men.Still, having two weekends a year that are actually restful, as opposed to my other Sabbaths, rocks!
SilverKnight Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 I have my fingers crossed that this is the year for an Apostle of FP Member to ever-so-gently imply that it might, on occasion, be OK to treat the Flood and Creation stories in Genesis as figurative accounts that could be a wee bit allegorical in nature.I am fasting and praying that this might come to pass.
blueadept Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 I always enjoying telling some non-member when they ask 'why are the LDS church parking lots so empty on this particular Sunday?'My answer usually includes something like 'they get to stay home in their pajamas while going to church this Sunday.' .... It happens twice a year!...
WalkerW Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 I get more enjoyment out of anticipation. I'm always hoping for another Holland smackdown. Or I amuse myself by trying to spot future controversies or lines that will be focused on to add to the growing list of LDS folk doctrine. You can look forward to that at the very least!

MorningStar Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 1. The spiritual uplift2. Personal revelation that comes with the messages we hear. 3. The beautiful music.4. The opportunity to teach my children more about prophets and apostles5. Special meals I have prepared for my kids6. Making new traditions like going out to lunch as a family between sessions on Saturday or on a picnic.7. Good laughs from Elder Uchtdorf 8. The love I feel from our General Authorities9. The renewed feeling I have to do better.10. The tradition we have in my ward to get together and discuss the talks. I love that.
Duncan Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 I can think of several changes in the General Authorities' that will happen this conference or next, so I am excited to hear what happens. I was thinking that the entire Presiding Bishopric is either very near 70 or over 70 so I suspect that we will get a new Presiding Bishopric. As a trivia note one of the Seventy that was called two years ago hasn't spoken yet so I hope they remember him for this time!
Mike Richards Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 Maybe if you pretend you're a little kid and print out coloring pages for yourself, you'll enjoy it more. I'm sure sugardoodle has got some fun ones...

Only time I am allowed to fire nerf weapons at the speakers without getting kicked out of the meeting.7. If I sleep through it they post transcripts of the meeting later for my reading pleasure.8. Able to repeat everything they are saying sarcastically in the voice of Morgan Freeman or Patrick Stewart.9. Can trim toenails in the meeting without being reviled.10. Ok, I'll give it a shot.(1) Getting a break from shoveling lamb food down the chute and hoping that it actually gets to the lambs AND it is actually nutritious(2) Actually getting fed myself! Time for a semi-annual lunch break!

William Schryver Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 I am temporarily suspending my vow to refrain from message board posting in order to unburden myself of the strong feelings evoked by this thread. In a manner more like a lament than a rejoicing of the soul, consiglieri expresses his anticipation of disappointment in the upcoming 181st Annual General Conference of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints:Top Ten Reasons to be Excited

It is not in the program. It is not in the mind of God. If I were to attempt that the Lord would remove me out of my place, and so he will any other man who attempts to lead the children of men astray from the oracles of God and from their duty."
