This quote by Michael Fishbane is absolutely essential in gaining an understanding of the biblical tradition and its interpretation, especially considering BoM interpretation of the Bible and other sacred texts.

Even in the language of the prophets, speaking under divine revelation, we can detect inner biblical exegesis. In Isaiah 29, the prophet is denouncing the people of Judah; they have been the object of his scorn throughout the preceding oracles and no new subject has been introduced. In Isaiah 29:9

So then what do we do with 2 Ne 27:5

For behold, ye have closed your eyes and ye have rejected the prophets;

And your rulers, and the seers hath he covered because of your iniquity.

We look, and we see that Nephi is doing the same thing as the scribes who added their interpolations to the current text

Indeed, prophetic (and uninspired) editing and (re)interpreting of previous prophetic texts is the norm in the ancient biblical tradition.
